WSU Continuing Education serves the mission of Weber State University through learning partnerships with the institution's non-traditional constituencies. The continuing education network of collaborative working relationships reaches pre-college students; working, re-entering and older adult learners; business and industry; governmental agencies; non-profit groups; public education organizations, and professional associations. Continuing Education addresses regional, national and global needs for education and professional development. Most continuing education students have work, family and other responsibilities, and their convenience is our priority. Continuing education classes are conducted once or twice a week throughout the school term, in three- hour sessions. Conferences, seminars, workshops and special programs run two to five full days, and sometimes longer. Days, nights and weekends, WSU's continuing education academic students are learning everything from accounting to zoology, and professional development students are acquiring marketable skills in many areas including computer certification, production inventory control, and supervisory techniques. Social workers, office managers, computer users, teachers, storytellers and many other groups attend conferences that feature nationally- known speakers and educators. Student convenience determines the locations for continuing education classes, training and conferences. Many are taught on the main campus in Ogden, but others are offered at the WSU-Davis Campus in Layton, WSU North Center in Pleasant View, and at public schools in the area. Businesses and agencies often prefer training and certification courses to take place at their work sites. Distance learning and online classes serve students in remote areas and those who prefer to work at their own pace. Several grateful students have said that these new opportunities are all that enables them to continue their professional growth. WSU Continuing Education develops quality learning experiences in a deliberately inclusive environment to help every participant achieve full potential. These learning experiences range from academic degree programs and courses delivered in cooperation with the university's academic departments to customized noncredit courses that draw on community resources. Continuing Education's role is to facilitate delivery of learning experiences in a variety of alternative formats, at convenient times and places, with appropriate student support services that meet the needs of its diverse clientele. These learning partnerships are conducted in the most convenient format for their purposes: classroom lectures, laboratories, workplace practicums, online delivery, or by mail. Continuing Education staff improves the quality of its offerings and services through annual appraisal cycles, needs assessments, student/customer feedback, staff performance ratings and program outcome evaluations.
