Participation opportunities are offered in individual, dual, and team sports for both men and women. Many activities are also offered on a co-ed basis. Included are: billiards, racquetball, rodeo, skiing, Softball, soccer, fencing, swimming, ice hockey, rugby, bowling, volleyball, men's baseball, women's fast pitch softball and martial arts. The Center also coordinates outdoor recreational trips and instructional programs for individuals and organizations. Please call for additional information. ASWSU is the university's official representative for all fee paying students and is committed to aggressively pursuing comprehensive internal and external student representation. ASWSU acknowledges dissimilar opinions by attempting to achieve a broad-based representation. ASWSU provides and supports programming and activities designed to involve and enrich the student body. ASWSU provides students with a variety of services and opportunities for community interaction and co-curricular learning unique to a campus setting. ASWSU is responsible to the student body of the university and provides answers and, whenever possible, solutions to student questions and concerns. ASWSU Student Senate Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Room 250 Telephone: 801-626-6349 The Student Senate is the elected representative body of the Associated Students. There are seventeen senators, eight academic and nine non-academic. These constituencies include: Applied Science & Technology, Arts & Humanities, Black Students, Business & Economics, Education, Health Professions, Latino-Chicano- Hispanic Students, Honours, Integrated and General Studies, International Students, Native American Students, Non-Traditional Students, Students With Disabilities, Residence Halls Students, Science, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Traditional Students, and Veteran Students. Senators are involved in every aspect of University life including University Academic and Administrative Standing Committees, Faculty Senate, Student Fees, and campus programming. Student Senate meets every Monday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Senate Activities The seventeen academic and non-academic senators are required to present programs which highlight and serve either their constituencies or the campus community. The senators work in conjunction with their respective Deans, departments, and area councils to produce at least two programs per semester. These activities encourage more one-on-one interactions among students, faculty, and staff. Students can get information and counseling about academic, cultural, personal/social, and financial as well as immigration concerns. The office also provides orientation programs and planned activities to help international students have a satisfying university experience as well as to achieve personal and academic success. Leadership training, tutoring and scholarship information are available through the Center. Follow-up assistance is provided to help students with their academic and personal needs. Veterans Affairs Location: Miller Administration Building, lower level, Room 103 Telephone: 801-626-6039 Coordinator: John Vickroy The Veterans Affairs Office (VAO) provides a variety of services designed to make education a successful experience for veterans. As the liaison between the university and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the office provides the necessary documentation for veterans to receive their educational benefits under the GI Bill. Additional services include academic advisement, class scheduling assistance, career planning assistance, academic skills assessment and help becoming oriented to a university atmosphere. The office also coordinates services for veterans through other service providers on campus for both academic and personal needs. It provides qualified veterans academic support services that assist them in developing the academic skills necessary to be successful in their post-secondary education experience. Southwick The Counseling and Psychological Services Center is staffed to provide a broad range of professional counseling services to Weber State University students, staff and faculty. These services include assistance in personal, educational, or relationship issues by means of individual, couple, or group counseling. A professionally trained staff is available to assist with career planning, resume writing, interview techniques and employment strategies. This office also coordinates Cooperative Education and Internship Programs and on and off-campus job opportunities, including work-study and all hourly employment.
