Show • Financial Aid Financial Aid General Information if they present evidence of having completed an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree and have completed a general education program comparable to that of Weber State College. If such is not presented applicants may be required to complete general education courses as outlined in this catalog. Special Admissions Programs Bootstrap Program The WSC Admissions Office will evaluate records of military personnel applying for the Bootstrap Program. Those interested should make formal application and provide the Admissions Office with a complete set of educational and military records along with a request for a Bootstrap evaluation interview. Summer Enrichment for High School Juniors Qualified high school students who have completed their junior year may apply for admission to Weber State College's summer quarter courses. Students accepted for the Summa Enrichment Program are allowed to carry a full academic load but are not permitted to register for courses which will be duplicated during their senior year. Applicants should rank academically in the uppa fourth of their class. To be considered for admission to the Summa Enrichment Program applicants must 1. Complete and return an application for admission. 2. Complete and return a summer enrichment application supplement. 3. Request a copy of their high school transcript The transcript should be sent directly to the WSC Admissions Office by the high school. 4. Pay the application fee. High school counselors can assist interested students and provide application materials. Concurrent Enrollment for High School Juniors and Seniors Qualified high school juniors and seniors may apply for pomission to take one or two courses at Weber State while concurrently enrolled in high school. The concurrent enrollment program is designed for exceptional students who are seeking additional challenges and academic enrichment Students applying for concurrent enrollment must have a 3.25 grade point average in all high school subjects, or be in the top 20% of their class. Concurrent enrollment students are not accepted into degree programs and must be approved on a quarter-by-quarter basis for continued enrollment. After high school graduation they must complete the regular application procedures (with the exception of the application fee) to become matriculated To be considered for admission to the concur rent enrollment program applicants must 1. Complete and return an application for admission. 2. Complete and return a concurrent enrollment application supplement. 3. Provide a copy of their high school transcript. The transcript should be sent directly to the WSC Admissions Office by the high school. 4. Pay the application fee. Early Admission Exceptionally well-qualified high school students may be considered for admission to Weba State College prior to high school graduation if they have completed their junior year, have earned a cumulative grade point average of a 3.85 or better, and scored at the 85th percentile on the ACT. They must also receive the unconditional endorsement of their parents and high school principal. Specific details can be obtained from the Admissions Office. FINANCIAL AID Location: Administration Building, Room 101 Telephone: 626-6581 Financial Aid Eligibility The Financial Aid Program consisting of grants, loans, scholarships, and opportunities to work is established to assist students in receiving an education that otherwise might not be available to them. The belief that educational opportunities should be accessible to all students, regardless of race, religion, social or economic background has been and will continue to be the motive behind the generosity and interest of those who make the Weba State College Financial Aid Programs possible, subject to the availability of funds. The general criteria for eligibility to participate in the grant, loan, or work program of Financial Aid is enumerated as follows for the average full-time student: 1. Students must be: U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, U.S. Permanent Residents, or refugees with an 1-94 record. All permanent residents must have valid ID cards from the VS. Government. 2. Students must establish their financial need by means of the appropriate financial aid applications which may be secured from die Office of Financial Aid or High School Counselor. (ACT Family Financial Statement (FFS) is preferred; Federal Application is optional.) After a student has properly completed and sent in die FFS form, he/she will receive an SAR Student Aid Report) in the mail. This report must be brought in to the Financial Aid Office at WSC in order to receive financial aid. 3. Students must either be enrolled or be Weber State College. accepted for enrollment at 4. A student must maintain satisfactory academic progress while at WSC in order to receive Federal funding. Students maintaining satisfactory progress must a. Meet the requirements of the general WSC Adademic Standards Policy (see Academic Standards for both satisfactory academic progress and the appeals procedure). b. Complete no less than 36 credit hours each year with grades other than I, W, UW, NC, audit and/or E. Credits that are being repeated cannot be counted (based on a 3-quarter academic year). c. Complete a Bachelor degree in no more than 5 years. When a student is identified as not maintaining satisfactory progress for a previous year, one quarter of funding will be allowed on a probationary status. At the completion of the probationary quarter, the student must provide documentation to show reestablishment of satisfactory progress or funding will be suspended. Part-time students receiving financial aid are under the same obligations, with the requirements reduced commensurate to part-time status, i.e., half-time students 18 credit hours each year for twelve years, etc. Students are advised that, for purposes of the Office of Financial Aid the following schedule shall apply: • Full-time student - 12 or more credit hours • Three-Quarter time - 9-11 credit hours • Half-time student - 6-8 credit hours • Not eligible - 5 credit hours or less Students are further advised that although the Financial Aid Office will assist, advise, and consult, the student is solely responsible for the completion of the appropriate financial aid application. It is solely the responsibility of the student to provide copies of a valid Student Aid Report (SAR) to the Financial Aid Office. Student Aid Reports (SAR) and supporting documents received by the Office of Financial Aid on or before July 15th will assure students of receiving their appropriate awards or checks in time for Autumn registration. SAR's received later than July 15th will be processed as quickly as possible but with no assurance that awards or checks will be ready for Autumn Registration. Financial Aid Waiver Request Procedure Students who may be denied continuance of Financial Aid for reasons otha than academic eligibility, and who feel their denial was based on an error or misundastanding, may request request eligibility by exception by the following steps: 1. Request an interview with a Financial Aid administrator, 2. Write a letter addressed to the Financial Aid Committee, explaining their circumstances, and turn this letter in at the Financial Aid office. The Financial Aid Committee meets on an "as needed" basis. The Committee action will be reported to appealing students through the Financial Aid Office. Students who have been denied Financial Aid continuance because of academic ^eligibility must appeal through the Academic Standards Committee. The financial aid programs of grants, loans, and work opportunities available to eligible students are identified and described as follows: Financial Aid Programs College Work-Study (CWS) Students may be eligible to work part-time to earn part of their education expenses if they are enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate or graduate student and have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FFS or the Federal application. The Financial Aid Office arranges jobs on campus or off campus with public or private non-profit agencies. Carea Services handles the posting of work-study job openings and referring students to the positions. If students are found to be eligible, they may be employed for as many as twenty (20) hours a week as determined by their awardln arranging a job and determining how many hours a week students may work unda this program, the financial aid officer will take into consideration: (1) their need for financial assistance; (2) their class schedule; and (3) their health and academic progress. In general, the salary received is at least equal to the current minimum wage. Guaranteed Student Loan Students may apply for a loan if they are enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment in a degree or certificate program. A student who is enrolled on at least a half-time basis may borrow a maximum of $2,625 pa academic year for freshmen and sophomores, $4,000 for juniors and seniors, and $7,500 for graduate and professional students. The total aggregate maximum amount for undergraduates is $17,250 and $54,750 for cumulative unda- graduate and graduate study. The interest rate unda current regulations does not exceed nine (9) percent Current regulations require a need analysis for all GSL applicants. A need analysis application approved by the Secretary for use in the campus- based programs (Perkins loan, SEOG, CWS) must be used to determine the family contribution for all GSL applicants. The Financial Aid Office will not certify a GSL application for any student who is in default on a previous education loan (NDSL, PLUS, GSL, SLS, etc) or who owes a refund on a grant (PELL, SEOG, SSIG) received for attendance at ANY institution.
