Show • Financial Aid Graduation General Information to submit the certified loan application to his/her lender. This ban is guaranteed by the State and insured by the Federal Government. This loan must be repaid. Payments begin six months after the student graduates or drops below half-time. The borrowa may be allowed up to ten years to repay the loan. Minimum repayment amount is $600 pa year depending on the size of the debt Students may be granted payment deferments - up to 24 months while seeking and unable to find employment; up to three years while serving in the Armed Forces, Peace Corps, full time voluntea unda the Domestic Voluntea Savice Act of 1973, active duty memba of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Corps, offica of the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service, or pursuing a full-time course of study at an eligible institution, etc. Interest shall accrue and be paid during periods of deferment. For details about these and additional deferments, application forms, information on Supplemental Loans for Students (SLS) and PLUS loans, contact the Financial Aid Office, or your commercial lender. Pell Grant Regularly enrolled and matriculated students may be eligible for Pell Grants as determined by their need analysis (Student Aid Report) if they are an undergraduate enrolled for at least six credit hours. The authorized maximum Pell Grant is 60% of the eligible students' cost of education or $2100.00, whichever is less. A program of instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL), that is necessary to enable a student to use existing knowledge, training or skills, qualifies for Pell if the student is otherwise eligible. Duration of Eligibility: For a student who received his or her first Pell Grant award in the 1987-88 award year, the duration of the student's eligibility for a Pell Grant is limited to: 1. The full-time equivalent of 5 academic years of study if the student is enrolled in an undergraduate degree or certificate program of 4 years or less, or 2. The full-time equivalent of 6 academic years if the student is enrolled in an undergraduate program that requires more than 4 years of study to complete. Perkins Loans (Formerly the National Direct Student Loan Program) Students may be eligible for the Perkins loan if they are enrolled at least half-time and have a financial need to meet their educational expenses as determined by the need analysis application. Students may borrow a maximum of $4,500 in a two-year poiod not to exceed $9,000 as an undergraduate student or $18,000 as a graduate student For loans made after July 1, 1987, repayment begins nine (9) months after the student ceases to carry at least one-half the normal full-time academic work load and ending ten (10) years and nine months after such date. Payments are a minimum of $30.00 pa month. During the repayment period they will be charged five (5) percent interest on the unpaid balance of the loan principal. Payments may be deferred for up to three years while borrowers serve in the Armed Forces, Peace Corps, or VISTA. Borrowers may also be eligible for loan cancellation provisions if they enter certain fields of teaching or specified military duty. Short Term Emergency Loans Student loans are funded for tuition and fees through the generosity of the Aglaia Club, Altruist Club, David R. Johnson Memorial Fund LaDianaeda Alumni, Ogden Business and Professional Women's Club, Ogden Honors Cotilhon, Rotary Club, Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Trust, Lydia Tanna Memorial, Glasmann Memorial, WSC Associated Students, WSC Faculty Women's Association, Wheelwright Memorial, WSC Restricted Loan Fund Eligibility information and application forms are available from the Office of Financial Aid. State Student Incentive Grant (SSIG) Utah resident students may be eligible for an SSIG if they are disadvantaged with financial need and enrolled or accepted for enrollment as an undagraduate student and who without the grant would be unable to pursue their edueation as determined by their application form. Maximum award is $2,500 per year when funded Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG) Students may be eligible for a Supplemental Grant if they demonstrate financial need as determined by their need analysis apphcation and are enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate student The maximum award is $4,000 pa year. Repayment Policy Federal Regulations require the College to have a definitive policy regarding repayment of federal assistance when a student withdraws from or reduces the number of credit hours for which originally registered. Repayment of funds to the Financial Aid Office by the student shall be according to the following schedule: Time of Withdrawal Percent of Funds to be Repaid Before class work begins and first week of class 100% Through the second week 90% Through the third week 70% Through the fourth week 60% Through the fifth week 50% Through the sixth week 40% Through the seventh week 30% Through the eighth week 20% Through the ninth week 10% Through the tenth week 0% ♦During the tenth calendar week no repayment shall be required. In the event that the student fails to make the necessary repayment of funds according to the above schedule, all future Financial Aid funding shall be withheld until restitution is made. GENERAL INFORMATION Application for Graduation A candidate for graduation should file an application for graduation, obtained at the Graduation Office, at least three quarters prior to the quarter the student plans to finish. Students who fail to apply prior to March 15 for Spring Commencement will automatically be moved to summer quarter for an evaluation and graduation. AppUcants will receive a written report on their standing for graduation upon which to plan the work for their senior year. The only exception to the above policy will be candidates for one-year certificates. Applications for any award will not be considered during the last few weeks before commencement unless special permission is given by Ihe Dean of Student Administrative Services. A candidate for graduation must pay die graduation fee at the Cashier's Office at the time of application. For students to be admitted to candidacy for any degree or title, their academic record must show that they have satisfied die entrance requirements and that they can fulfill the requirements for graduation. No credit obtained prior to the time a student matriculates will be used toward graduation requirements unless approved by the Graduation Committee. The student must have cleared all College financial obligations in orda to graduate. Students who complete degree requirements during any quarter of the academic year will receive their diploma during the following quarter. An official letter of completion may be obtained on request for purposes of employment or promotion Graduates who receive their diplomas prior to commencement and hwo are eligible for Honors will have to return their diplomas to the Graduation Office to have the Honors designation noted after commencement (See Honors at Graduation) Change in Graduation Requirements Beginning with the 1983-85 catalog, college policy allows bachelor degree candidates six years to complete the graduation requirements of the catalog unda which they were admitted. Associate degree candidates are given three years. Prior to 1983, the policy allowed four and two years, respectively. The 1981-83 catalog was the last four-year catalog and was in effect for students admitted to the College between summa quarter 1981 and spring quarter 1983. That catalog expired with June graduation 1987 for bachelor degree candidates, and June graduation 1985 for associate degree candidates. Students who were admitted unda the 1981-83 catalog and did not graduate by the expiration dates, must choose a subsequent catalog for the applicable graduation requirements. The 1983-85 catalog was the first six-year catalog published Six-year catalogs are in effect for students admitted between summa quarter of the first year of the catalog, and spring quarter of the last year of the catalog. For bachelor degree candidates, six-year catalogs expire with June graduation six years from the last year of the catalog. For associate degree candidates, the catalog expires with June graduation three years from the last year of the catalog. When bachelor or associate degree candidates take longer than six or three years to graduate, they must choose the requirements from any one catalog published within the six- or three-year period prior to their graduation Once a catalog is selected students must abide by all the graduation requirements specified in that catalog.
