Show • General Education Requirements General Education Requirements General Information Major Requirements Major programs which require a minor will consist of not fewer than 40 and not more than 60 credits in the major field. Major programs without a minor shall consist of not more than 85 credits in the major field. Minor Requirements A minor is a program of study generally selected to complement and strengthen a student's major and/or enrich the student's overall educational program. Some bachelor degree programs do not require a minor. See your major program of study outline to determine if a minor is required. Residency Requirement A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree must have a niinimum of 45 aedits in residence at Weba State College and be registered at the College during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to graduation. School or Department Requirements Furtha information concerning specific courses will be provided under the discussion of school or department requirements and instructions. Candidates for graduation in the School of Education must meet the minimum requirements as outlined by the Utah State Board of Education for certification of elementary and secondary schools. Specific College Requirements All candidates must include in the 183 credits required for graduation the following: • English 101, 102 - 8 credit hours • Health 101 or 102 or 103 - 2 credit hours • Physical education activities* - 3 credit hours • The state requirements in American history, government and Economics • Math competency requirements Physical education activities: Courses must be taken fiom three different areas within the Physical Education courses numbered fiom 100-160. Athletics courses numbered fiom 151-168, and Dance courses numbered fiom 146-153, 247-249, and 251 may also be used to satisfy the Physical Education activities requirements. The state requirement in American history, government, and economics may be satisfied by any of the following: • Completing one of the following courses: Econ SS274; Hist SS170 or Polsci SSI 10. (These courses may also be appEed to general education requirements.) • Presenting advanced placement credit in American history or suitable transfer courses fiom other institutions. • Passing a special examination administered before the end of die second week of each quarter under the direction of the chair of the Department of History. Mathematics competency requirement: All candidates for the Bachelor of Integrated Studies, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts degrees, who upon admission to the College presented ACT math scores below 17, or who were admitted without ACT scores, are required to achieve one of the following before they will be approved for graduation: • A 17 or above on the math section of the ACT test*, OR A grade of 2.0 or better in Mam. 105, OR • A grade of 2.0 or better in a math course that has Math 105 as a prerequisite. • The math section of the ACT test may be taken at scheduled times in die Testing center by students seeking to use this option. REQUIREMENTS FOR GENERAL EDUCATION The General Education Program described in the following sections is required of all students who receive a bachelor degree from Weba State College. To provide the broadest possible background in general education, the selection of courses should depend upon the high school preparation. The student who has done well in a high school course in a given field should not select a course that might repeat essentially the same subject matter.
