Centennial Observance Log Cabin Restored For Fete In Morgan MORGAN — Preparations for Morgan County's Centennial celebration, to be held here on July 22, 23 and 24, are going forward. The most outstanding facelifting has been to the little log cabin, which was the birthplace of the first white boy, Charles Roswell Stevens, born on Sept. 23, 1857. The log cabin was obtained from the Jake Bohman family of Peterson in 1931, and moved to its present site on the Tabernacle grounds and dedicated July 24, 1931. This historical little one- room building has been com¬pletely restored by Charles Leslie Checketts, a Morgan County resident for only three years. Mr. Checketts donated all materials and over 30 hours labor, to restore the cabin for the coming centennial. Inside the cabin visitors can still see the little coal cooking stove covered with pots and pans which served both as heat for the cabin as well as to prepare food. There is also a bed and several other original pieces of furniture. Just south of the cabin is a full sized bum The stones were used in the Richville mill which was the first grist mill erected in the valley. The burr was entirely surrounded by over grown foilage until it was completely blotted out. This was removed by Mr. Checketts and the entire grounds were restored. Morgan County residents are sure the little log cabin will be one of the outstanding points of interest to centennial visitors.
