Show DUP Aim: More And Better "More And Better Pioneer Histories" will be the theme of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers national convention Saturday at the Hotel Utah. Mrs. Kate B. Carter, presi¬dent, said the organization's purpose is to gather and pub¬lish pioneer histories, as well as preserve pioneer relics and place markers at historic sites. Just off the press is the DUP's latest publication, Volume 15 of "Our Pioneer Heritage." One of the morning speak¬ers, Dr. Russell R. Rich of Brigham Young University, will discuss the need for tho¬rough research in publishing histories. Mrs. Carter reported that work is progressing on the Carriage House being built at the rear of the Pioneer Muse¬um, 300 N. Main. Work started in July and the two story build¬ing is expected to be com-pleted by April, 1973. The structure will house Pioneer wagons, carriages, handcarts, sleighs and other items too large for the present museum. Mrs. Carter will give her an¬nual president's message at the morning session of the convention, which convenes at 9:30 a.m. in the Lafayette Ballroom. Beulah Spencer' first vice president, will report on the DUP as a history pub¬lishing organization, and Moneta S. Baker will give the progress report on the Car-riage House, Wendell J. Ashton. manag¬ing director of external com¬munication for the Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be guest speaker at the noon luncheon in the Empire Room. DUP members who attend the morning session will be el¬igible to take the afternoon bus tour of Utah Lake at 2p.m. |
