Utah Pioneers Elite Group, DUP Meet Hears "Pioneers were the highest quality people America has produced, and the Mormon Pio¬neer was the elite of this cate¬gory," delegates to the Daugh¬ters of the Utah Pioneers con¬vention were told Saturday. The speaker was Dr. David E. Miller of the University of Utah history department. "The DUP has inherited that noble heritage and has a tremendous responsibility to it," he said. He told an audience of sev¬eral hundred DUP members from across the nation meet¬ing in Hotel Utah that one way they can live up to this re¬sponsibility is by recording their history. He praised the work the DUP has done to date, and especially commended the ef¬forts of DUP president Kate B. Carter in the field of writ¬ing. Dr. Miller said the nature of historical writing is such that written words become part of the writer. He en¬couraged the DUP to see that its works are well written, be¬cause its books will honor or haunt the organization, depending upon their merit.
