Show DUP Building Opened for Kiddies Mrs. Lois Peterson, Chairman of the Senior Citi¬zens Elementary School Volunteers, provided an ex-citing week for the young school children. For three days the Daugh¬ters of Utah Pioneers opened their building to show the students their very interest¬ing collection of relics and historical items. Those serving as hostess¬es to the nineteen school teachers and 535 children were; Mrs. Emma Harding, Custodian of Relics, Mrs. Sarah Scott, Mrs. LaRue Waldron, Mrs. Lucille Will¬iams, Mrs. Pat McCurdy, Mrs. Emeline Florence and Mrs. Peterson. There were so many things of great interest to the children, including very old guns, and rifles, one of the first typewriters contained in an oak cover, an oxen yoke and a folding dentist chair, that the dentist of past years carried to the homes of his patients. They also showed old fashioned clothing, Jewelry, dishes, pictures, scrap- books, organs and musical instruments. One of the many letters of appreciation to the ladies is as follows: Dear D.U.P. Ladies: That Buffalo gun was very heavy. I enjoyed everything that you showed us. My friend Tim has a rotton tooth, bring chair (dentist) and that old tooth puller too. You ladies are very nice to invite us over, it was very fun. -Signed On Thursday, after breakfast in the courthouse, a group of Senior Citizens also toured the DUP Build-ing. This event proved to be an interesting, educational, and entertaining event for all those who participated. We express our thanks and appreciation to the Daugh¬ters of Pioneers. Also during the month of April, the Sr. Citizens provided additional educa¬tional items and activities at the elementary school. Max Widdison continued with his presentation of the county ambulance. This enables the children to understand the services provided by the am¬bulance and the volunteers who drive it. Albert Welch told the chil¬dren about the past postal system, Lois Peterson showed her cylinder type "Thomas Edison" record player. Vera Carter told how to write for a newspaper, and explained some of her ex¬periences. Gwen Robison, Glenna Porter, Sarah Scott and Lois Peterson worked in the Media Center. The Sr. Citizens appre¬ciate the opportunity of serv¬ing at the school, and the school personnel have also expressed gratitude for them coming. There is only the remain¬der of the month of May left of this school year. Sr. Citi¬zens wishing to volunteer should call Mrs. Lois Peter¬son, 829-6049. -L. Larsen Director Officers and members of the DUP greatly appreciated the visits of the elementary students and the Senior Citizens, who expressed so much interest and appreciation in the displays. |
