Show Kate B. Carter Mrs. Kate B. Carter, who died this week at 84, was one of Utah's best- loved women. A native of Spanish Fork, Mrs. Carter was proud that her father was one of the hardy band of Ice-landers who had migrated to Utah and had settled in Utah County. Her mother was a Dane. She was always interested in his¬tory. During her long and fruitful career as an historian, she wrote 37 books, in addition to monthly bulle¬tins and countless special articles. Her center of interest was the Daughters of Utah Pioneers organi¬zation, which she served as president from 1941 until her death. She led the campaign to construct a suitable memorial to the pioneers and the DUP Museum she opened on Salt Lake City's Capitol Hill in 1952 was her shrine. She was a frequent visitor to our area, especially during the Golden Spike Centennial when she served as an effective member of Utah's Golden Spike Commission. Local chapters of the DUP were visited by Mrs. Carter many times. Kate B. Carter well earned her own place in Utah's history. |
