Carter If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed . . . nothing shall be impossible unto you. —Matt. 17:20 The constitution of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (organized April 11, 1901) declares it to be an organ¬ization founded for the purpose "of perpetuating the names and achievements of the men, women and children who were the pioneers in founding this commonwealth; by preserving old landmarks, marking historical matter and securing unprinted manu¬scripts, photographs, maps and all such data as shall aid in perfecting a record of the Utah Pioneers; by commemorat¬ing their entrance into the valley of the Great Salt Lake on July 24, 1847, and such other advents and days as are im¬portant in the early history of this community; by publish¬ing historical material; and by reviewing the lives of the pioneers: thus teaching their descendants and the citizens of our country a lesson of faith, courage, fortitude and patriotism." President Kate Bearnson Carter was the epitome of this charter, working with diligence and persistence to accomplish every facet of it. She carried on this important work far beyond most active life spans; old age—for her—was a crown of character and wisdom. It is the responsibility of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers to strive with dedication to achieve the standards which she exem¬plified and established.
