Much discussion ensued, with the commission being reluctant to let the project move forward with questions about safe access to the businesses and the lot being too small for three businesses. They also discussed the possibility of widening the road and adding curb and gutter. The commission asked Blair to work out the concerns with city staff and bring his proposal to the next city council meeting. The commission next considered the application for a 40-acre seasonal paint ball business at 3150 W. Pioneer Rd,. which was passed unanimously. The commission also gave preliminary approval with conditions to the Mill Creek Subdivision at 2000 W. 200 S., and KBC Leasing at 1178 W. 1700 S. Weber Sentinel City council approves funds for new city building and senior center Marriott-Slaterville's city council met and approved four months of minutes and then turned to the Frank Blair business proposal. The council learned that the Utah Department of Transportation owns 400 North, so the council will not work out the issues related to that road. Mayor Keith Butler next explained the work of his committee to select a contractor for the new city building and senior center. Butler recommended that Kier Construction be awarded the contract, feeling that Kier would give them the most for their money. The council unanimously approved the mayor's recommendation and also unanimously approved $971,000 to fund the construction and furnishing of these new buildings. Bill Morris, city administrator, reported that no borrowed money or bonds would be used for the facility, partly because they have saved money for five years rather than borrow funds. Five hundred thousand dollars of the money would come from the Weber Area Council of Governments and the remainder from the city's capital improvements fund. As a further economy, the city has the flexibility to do some of its own work (perhaps landscaping and parking lot asphalt) if they can do it cheaper than the contractor. Butler praised Morris' efforts, saying that Morris has put in much time and effort to help acquire funding for the new facility. Without him, the mayor continued, "we'd have no city, no building." The council held a public hearing about Ordinance 2005-03, which has been requested by Richard Boud for a text amendment to the zoning ordinance to allow storage unit facilities in the A-1 zone if it is located on a state road, among other conditions. Boud wants to put in some storage units in front of a new subdivision near 200 N. and 1900 W. No one from the public was there to comment, and council discussed the pros and cons, then decided they needed more information before they could reach a decision. |
