Show Concerns About Power Substation June 17, 2005 Site for power substation brings concerns I attended a June 1 meeting to discuss the issuance of a conditional-use permit to Utah Power to build a new power substation on 1200 West. This location is on Business Depot Ogden property, directly across the street from my property. Those present voiced concerns. One is the fact that the substation would be built within 60 feet of two different pipelines that carry combustible materials. One is a Chevron pipeline that carries jet fuel, diesel fuel and gasoline as far as the state of Washington. The second is a natural-gas pipeline that runs parallel to the Chevron pipeline. There is also a junior high school within yards of the proposed location of the new substation. I also voiced concern over the location of the power lines that would be needed to distribute the electricity. Have Utah Power and the Ogden Planning Commission made the citizens of Farr West and Mountain View Estates aware that these power lines will be traversing their properties? Or are they going to tell the homeowners during another "final-action" meeting when it's too late to change anything? I was disappointed by the lack of concern for the issues we raised. To prevent a catastrophe due to natural disaster or malfunction, the substation should be pushed east to the part of BDO that is less suitable for other building due to contamination when BDO was Defense Depot Ogden.
