Show August 2005 It has been exciting this summer to see the ongoing construction of our new city office/senior center in a timely manner. Once the wet spring turned into summer sun it seemed a progressive change could be seen almost daily. It was a time for selection of carpet, vinyl, stone and a myriad of other decisions as the building took shape. The building is about 80% complete with the painting finished and the curb, gutter and parking lot work scheduled to begin. Carpet is scheduled by the end of the month, and cabinets due to be delivered. It seems almost impossible, but city officials expect to move into the building around mid-September. The Mayor is looking forward to an early date for dedication of the building. Mayor Butler asked for volunteers to help with the landscaping. At the August 18, 2005, City Council Meeting, three new business licenses were approved: Schofield Transportation services, bookkeeping for trucking companies, Secure Properties, a real estate related business, and Wasatch Mountain Mechanical, Inc., a plumbing business. Administrator Bill Morris indicated that they were all in compliance with zoning requirements. The Capital Improvement Plan was updated and will be included in the Weber County Consolidated Plan. The projects that have been completed are the construction of the Municipal Center, the resurfacing of 100 West from 700 South to 200 South, an asphalt parking area on 1700 South at River Cove Park, chip/seal of Pioneer Road west of SR126 to the end, storm drainage and retention, and one additional fire hydrant has been installed. Mr. Morris briefly went over the summary, cost estimates and priority for the one year and five year projects. Road funds was increased due to the higher price of oil. After some minor technical changes were addressed the council approved the ordinance, 2005-G for the Plan. Resolution 2005-H, which established fees for the use of public facilities was approved after discussion. The fees for the use of facilities would provide for cleaning and maintenance deposit and an application. How to open and close the building for events was discussed as well as charging more for a larger group. The council feels the fee needs to benefit all residents. Dennis Ilium suggested giving the Mayor authority to waive or increase the fees as needed. Mr. Morris will add this provision. Spencer Farms, KBC Leasing, and the Marriott Business Park were annexed into the Pioneer Special Service District with the council approval of Resolution 2005-1. West Nile Virus has been reported in the area, but the mosquito abatement does not believe it came from Weber County, but from out of state. A trip to the new city office was taken by the council members, staff, and public in attendance, at the close of the council meeting. The second Evening of Music at the Park was held at the Marriott Park on August 15, 2005. Those in attendance were treated with some delightful musical presentations by members of our community. Those taking part were Gerald and Joan Taylor, Ned and Barbara Allred, Paula and Summer Okey, the Rob Smout family, the Rock Band of Steve Ito, Matt Tipping and Randall Topper (with a vocal number by Buzzy Ito), and J. R. Simmons. Thanks to all of our talented neighbors. A summer picnic for residents age 55 years and older was held on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at the Slaterville Park. The charge for the activity was $3.00. Shauna Meyerhoffer was in charge of the event which had about 50 of our senior citizens in attendance. Bits and Pieces Georgia H. Clasen died August 20, 2005, at the age of 62. |
