Show June Meetings Weber Sentinel MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY COUNCIL REPORT FOR JUNE 2005 By Joyce VanTassell Joint work session held The Marriott-Slaterville Planning Commission met with the city council in a joint work session on June 8 to discuss zoning ordinance amendments and the Mill Creek Subdivision. They discussed concerns about setbacks in relation to the Mill Creek Subdivision and existing neighbors' animals. Commission President Dennis Ilium said, "Our problems are not with one-half acre lots; one-acre lots are our problem." Storage sheds on commercial property were discussed next, with the group agreeing to permit storage sheds as a conditional use when the retail portion of the business was opened first or the shed was built jointly with the business. The junk vehicle ordinance was discussed next, with discussion about the number of "junk" cars that could be on someone's property covered and the amount of car parts stored to be limited also. Vinyl fencing was discussed in relation to the Mill Creek Subdivision, with concerns raised about its durability if the adjacent field was burned and also that a six-foot fence would have the effect of closing the subdivision off from the rest of the community. Placement of the fences was also discussed. Placing the fence away from the ditch (or pipe) so that there would be an easement for access and repair was recommended. Concerns about the maintenance of the water ditch were also discussed, with concerns that it be kept clear so all water share owners received their share of the water. The merits of stucco finishes or high-grade vinyl siding were also discussed. City council approves the Mill Creek Subdivision City council met June 16 and was addressed by Brent DeYoung, project director from Utah Department of Transportation. He presented the plans for expansion of I-15, which is slated to begin in the spring of 2006. The council next discussed a limited access highway amendment, which would help Utah Power in putting a substation on 1200 West, on the border of Marriott-Slaterville and Ogden. The council narrowly approved the ordinance, 3 - 2. The Mill Creek subdivision was considered by the council next, with discussion centering on fence issues, pipe placement and easement issues, stucco vs. siding for the exterior of the new homes and the 404 permit that would be needed to cross Mill Creek. Ilium said that it would be the developer's responsibility to make the ditch or pipe functional all the way from the head gate to the pond. The subdivision was approved, subject to meeting all conditions, with all council members voted "aye" except Councilman Rob Smout. Progress on new city building Mayor Keith Butler reported the progress of the city building, saying that things were "moving right along," with a planned finish date in mid-September. Shauna Meyerhoffer, the senior citizen director, is planning an auction for July 4 to raise funds for the furnishings in the senior center. |
