Show February 29 Oertel Russell 1956 Feby 29 Mrs. Oertel Rich Russell, 60, died yesterday at the home of her father, Dr. Edward I. Rich, at 2624 Taylor Ave., after an extended illness. Mrs. Russell was a member of the LDS Church and had been active in auxiliary organizations while residing in Ogden, Salt Lake City and Ohio. At the time of her death she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and the Acacia Club of Ogden. She was born March 27, 1895, in Kaysville, a daughter of Dr. Edward I. and Emily Almira Cozzens Rich. When she was a child, the family moved to Ogden. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1914 and attended the University of California for one year. In 1915 she moved to Boston to attend the New England Conservatory of Music where she studied piano and voice, returning to Ogden in 1916. On June 21, 1917, she was married to Dr. G. Oscar Russell in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City for a short time, then moved to Columbus, Ohio, for 16 years, returned to Ogden for two years, lived in Oxford, Ohio, for five years, and returned again to Ogden. Surviving are one son, Robert Rich Russell, Oxford, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Edwin Q. (Janath) Cannon Jr., Salt Lake City; her father, Ogden; five grandchildren, the following brothers and sisters: Dr. Junior E. Rich, Mrs. Royal (Cleone) Eccles, Mrs. Joseph W. (Myrene) Brewer, Ogden; Col. Thair C. Rich, MC, U.S. Army, Ft. Bragg N.C.; Mrs Junius (Avon) Smart, Los Angeles; Mrs. H. Taylor (Mary) Peery, Palo Alto, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the LDS Forty-third Ward Chapel, with Bishop C. LaGrande Stewart officiating. Friends may call at Lindquist and Sons Colonial Funeral Chapel, 3408 Washington Blvd., Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Ogden City cemetery. The family requests flowers be omitted. March 1 Thursday Nice day, Avon Rich Smart arrived from Los Angeles at noon and Mary Rich Peery, --our daughter-- arrived (Mary) from Palo Alto Cal via air at noon. Both well -- so glad to have them home, The Family has visit at home during afternoon and evening. Neighbors and Friends called in person or over phone or telegrams. |
