Show Last Union Veteran in Coma, Condition Listed ‘Critical’ By Associated Press DULUTH, MINN., July 28 - Albert Woolson, last survivor of the Civil War’s Boys in Blue, lay in a coma late Saturday in St. Luke’s Hospital where he has been confined with lung congestion. Hospital attendants said there was no change in the 109-year-old veteran’s condition since he lapsed into unconsciousness early Saturday. His condition is critical. He is receiving oxygen. Three of Woolson’s six daughters were at his bedside. Woolson, the last of some 2,675,000 men who fought with the Union Army in the Civil War, has been hospitalized many times recently because of lung congestion, caused mainly, his physician said earlier, by advancing years. Woolson was hospitalized earlier this year but spent Memorial Day at his home, where a daughter, Mrs. John Kobus, lives. |
