Show April 8 - ‘56 PERSON TO PE Wonderful April weather is conducive of getting in the car and starting out with nary a care as to its destination…. The Val A. Brownings with daughter, Judy, and Miss Gayle Ledingham have returned from a week in Las Vegas. Among the shows they saw, they enjoyed most the Frank Sinatra and Patti Page ones. ENJOYABLE TRIP The Joseph W. Brewers had an exciting trip to the East where they visited in New York and Washington, D.C. The Jay Glasmanns of Washington and the Rich Brewers of Quantico, Va., joined them in New York. Mr. Brewer just recently graduated from training with the Marines, as second lieutenant and is now assigned to Camp Pendleton. He and Mrs. Brewer (Jane Hammond) returned home with the Brewers and are dividing their time between the Brewers and the O.C. Hammonds, Mrs. Brewer’s parents. They will leave for Pendleton the first of the week. During their stay in Washington, the Brewers, besides visiting with the Ralph Hardys. A highlight for Mrs. Brewer was attending Mamie Eisenhower’s birthday party held at the Willard Hotel. Seated at the table with Mrs. Brewer and party were Mrs. Ezra T. Benson, wife of Secretary of Agriculture; Mrs. Herbert Hoover Jr., wife of assistant secretary of state; Mrs. Herbert Brownell, wife of attorney general; Mrs. Sinclar Week, wife of secretary of commerce; Mrs. Clarence A. Davis, wife of under secretary of Interior and Mrs. Philip Young, chairman of Civil Service. “Mrs. Eisenhower is fascinating,” Mrs. Brewer said, “and her coloring and shining eyes with her lovely skin show up so much more in life than in her pictures. She is exceptionally gracious.” She wore an attractive silk print suit with a rose design, and a pillbox-hat covered with a mass of pink rosebuds with a soft green velvet bow. Pink gloves, pearl earrings and a few dangling bracelets completed her ensemble. “Mrs. Hoover is very beautiful and aristocratic,” Mrs. Brewer said, “and wore a lovely periwinkle blue wool suit with small cloche of the same material which went attractively with her slightly graying hair.” Mrs. Weeks chose a bright red straw hat to wear with her print dress with red background. “She is exceptionally vivacious and dynamic,” Mrs. Brewer said. Mrs. Brownell’s ensemble was a tailored brown wool suit with a burst orange cloche. “She is the intellectual type and wears her hair very plainly,” she said. Mrs. Young had a light blue wool suit with gray felt hat and impressed Mrs. Brewer as being very friendly. Mrs. Davis, who seems to be the “warm, motherly type,” wore a black and white print dress with black trimmed straw hat. “Mrs. Benson is the wholesome type,” Mrs. Brewer said, “and was gowned in a navy blue dress with a polka-dot collar. Her small hat was navy blue.” The event was given by the wives of the Independent Agencies of Washington, including Civil Service, Federal Communications and others. Mrs. Eisenhower was presented with a beautiful antique fan, framed in a soft green and gold frame with mother of pearl trim. The tables, which held places for 400, were gay with Japanese iris, yellow tulips and acacia, and miniature fans with Mamie’s favorite carnations as favors. Small individual cakes with pink rosebuds also were at each plate. A special TV program of Mrs. Eisenhower’s favorite songs provided entertainment. NUMEROUS PARTIE Mr. and Mrs. C.
