This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Dr. Robert A. Aldrich...To address Utah medical parley. For State Medical Sessions Physicians Chart Talks on Child Ills Diseases primarily affecting children will be discussed by speakers at the 61st annual meeting, Utah State Medical Assn., to be held Wednesday to Sunday at the Hotel Utah. Other topics will include a great variety of medical and surgical problems. Some of the country’s most noted physicians and surgeons will participate. AMONG TALKS of special interest in the field of pediatrics will be “The Modern Management of Rheumatic Fever,” by Dr. Lowell A. Rantz, professor of medicine, Stanford University; “Malignant Tumors in Infants and Children,” by Dr. Mark M. Ravitch professor of surgery, John Hopkins University; “The Present Status of Tuberculosis in Childhood,” by Dr. Robert A. Aldrich, associate professor of pediatrics, University of Oregon, and “The Significance and Management of Acute Nephritis,” by Dr. Aldrich. OTHER PAPERS will deal with such subjects as ulcerative colitis; surgery of the hip; treatment of urinary infection; use of hormones in the female; the importance of antibiotic-resistant bacteria; treatment of certain types of cancer, and ear, nose and throat problems. The House of Delegates USMA will meet all day Sept. 5, and the first technical session will begin the following day at 9 a.m. after an address of welcome by Dr. R. O. Porter, Logan, president of USMA. His subject will be, “The Physician and His Hospital.” A breakfast business meeting of officers and directors of the Utah Chapter, American Academy of General Practice, has been set for Sept. 7 at 7:30 a.m. Members of the women’s auxiliary of USMA are planning special meetings and entertainment events for Sept. 6 and 7 at the hotel. |
