Show Counseling Center High School & Junior College Services General Information Intramurals The objective of intramural programming is to promote social interaction and fellowship within the College through a wide range of competitive and reaeational sports. Participation opportunities are offered in individual, dual, and team sports for both men and women. Many activities are also offered on a co-recreational basis. informal Recreation This program provides the college community the opportunity to use a variety of facilities for drop-in recreation. Facilities include a swimming pool, racquetball/tennis courts, a conditioning room (weights/aerobics), gym floor, playfield, and a one mile jogging exercise trail. For specific times and days, consult a facility schedule for open recreation available at the Swenson Gym, Room 108. WSC ID. cards required after 5:00 p.m. and weekends. Sport Clubs The sport club program involves students, faculty, and staff which compete against local, state, regional, and natioanl colleges and university teams in a variety of sports. Included are: archery, racquetball, rodeo, skiing, soccer, fencing, fitness club, bowling, volleyball, table tennis and karate. CAREER SERVICES CENTER Director: Steven Eichmeier Location: Union Building, Room 280 Telephone: 626-6393 The objective of the Center is to assist all students in formulating a career development program, starting at the earliest possible time that will permit them to put their education to work in a carea field that will be both satisfying and rewarding on a lifetime basis. The Career Services Center also provides services to students needing part-time employment or work-study through its Student Employment Center, and to alumni needing assistance in furthering and broadening their career through counseling, job referrals, and updated career information. The Career Services Center provides centralized and education-oriented career development, work environment, and job placement programs. Career development is an important part of the educational resources available to all students at Weber State College. Richard Southwick Location: Building 1, Room 125 Telephone: 626-6406 Purpose The purpose of the Counseling Center is to promote student development in emotional, social, educational, and carea areas. Services also are available to faculty and staff members. Occasionally, students encounter circumstances that induce frustration, stress, and personal disruption. Effective strategies for coping with these situations and feelings facilitate emotional and educational growth. The Counseling Center provides group and individual programs to enhance development. Description The Counseling Center has a full-time, professional staff of five psychologists and one counselor who work from a wide variety of theoretical approaches. Any aspects of personal development noted above can be obtained by scheduling an appointment through the Center receptionist Confidentiality Initial intake interviews and all counseling sessions are kept strictly confidential. Psychiatric Service A psychiatrist serves as a consultant to the Counseling Center and is available for limited psychiatric assistance through referral by and conjoint treatment with a member of the Counseling Center staff. HIGH SCHOOL & JUNIOR COLLEGE SERVICES Location: Administration Building, Room 210 Telephone: 626-6050 Toil-Free (within Utah only) 1-8001634-6568 The Office of School Services is the liason between Weber State College and prospective students. Representatives of the College make scheduled visits to all high schools and junior colleges within the state and to selected schools in neighboring states. The purpose of these visits is to inform students and educators of the educational programs available at the College and to provide them with information about academic opportunities, application procedures and deadlines. Campus visits for interested student groups, student and counselor confaences and the total student recruitment program are coordinated through the School Services Office. EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE PROGRAMS Director: Alan Dayley Location: Union Building, Room 427 Telephone: 626-6361 Educational Resource Programs are services designed to assist re-entry women students, minority students, and adult students. These programs focus particularly on recruitment, orientation, retention, graduation, and placement of these groups of students. Current programs are as follows: Women's Educational Resource Center Location: Union Building, Room 353 Telephone: 626-6090 The purpose of the Women's Eduational Resource Center is to provide counseling, advisement, and support services to the older student returning to school. The Center seeks to promote better understanding of gender- based issues among students, faculty, and staff. Services of the Center are designed to provide a supportive environment, help students overcome barriers, establish objectives, and achieve their academic goals. The Center is open to all who would like assistance. Multicultural Educational Resource Center Location: Union Building, Room 427 Telephone: 626-6361 This Center provides academic support services for ova 800 people of color enrolled at WSC. This office provides these non-traditional students (on campus and off campus) the following assistance: 1) Admissions information 2) Registration Information 3) Academic Advisement 4) Counseling 5) Graduation Information 6) Carea Planning and Placement Information INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CENTER Director: Diann Stewart Location: Social Science Building, Room 380 Telephone: 626-6028 or 626-6853 The International Student Center offers a variety of services to students from countries otha than the United States. These services include cultural orientation to help students adjust to Weber State College, Utah, and the United States as well as academic advisement, social and cultural events, and personal counseling. English as a second language is provided by the ESL Program whose offices are located within the International Student Center. (See index, ESL.)
