Feby 14’56 Wilson McCarthy Wilson McCarthy, native Utahn whose leadership contributed to the solid rehabilitation of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, died Sunday in Salt Lake City at the age of 71. Mr. McCarthy was favorably known in several fields, including ranching, the law and politics, but his greatest contribution to the western region was in a field totally new to him, railroading. The rejuvenation of the D&RGW has been described as spectacular. Comparison of the road’s equipment, traffic and earnings today with the figures at the time he became co-trustee will show why the adjective is justified. The improvement began even in the severe depression days and have been continuous. Wilson McCarthy was a man of good will who built up friendships as well as the railroad he headed. His work will have a lasting effect in this region where he will be long remembered. Tabernacle Is Dedicated The entire community, we are sure, joins with members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in pleasure over the dedication of the new Ogden Tabernacle. The edifice is a beautiful and commodius place of worship, the facilities of which will give joy to church members down through the years and contribute to neighborliness by providing facilities for such community events as the recent performance of “The Messiah.” The dedication services were a signal that the last cent of indebtedness against the building has been wiped out, a happy condition reflecting the fidelity, diligence and generosity of the thousands of Mormon people contributing to its cost. Every member of the great congregation, we believe, rejoiced especially because President David O.
