This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show March 2 Friday Nice day. We are having a nice visit with Mary and Avon. We all went down to the mortuary and viewed dear Oertel in her casket and are well pleased with the way she looks. This evening from 6 to 8 my friends called at Mortuary and viewed the remains and paid their respects to the Family many friends called. We are all tired tonight. David Peery came up from school at Provo Beautiful flowers and many kind expression of love and respect Retire early -- tired. Funeral will be tomorrow at 2 pm in 43rd ward Chapel Sunday March 4th Nice day. Avon, Mary and I visited the cemetery this a.m Had nice dinner at Cleone & Royals We attended meeting in the 43th ward at 5 p.m. Relief society refreshments Very good. Many friends. We are so pleased to have Mary and Avon with us. We are so thankful we had a pleasant day for the family yesterday. March 3-4 Very nice -- warm and sunshine, We went down to Mortuary at 11-30 p.m. and greeted friends until time to go to the 43rd Ward Chapel for the funeral services. Many friends and Relatives called, We followed the Remains of dear Oertel to the 43rd ward Chapel 1643 -- 26th st Ogden and a beautiful funerary service was held. Bp C LaGrande Stewart Conducted, Dr James L Baker and of Salt Lake City and Dr Ernest L Wilkinson President of B.Y.U. University of Provo were the speakers. Bp John A Snow offered the opening prayer and Patriarch Fred M Abbott offered the benediction four sisters sang too lovely music Oertel was buried in the Ogden City Cemetery beside her dear Mother -- Almira Cozzens Rich -- Wife of Dr Edward I Rich grave was dedicated by Edwin Q Cannon of Salt Lake City - A lovely funeral. A Family gathering of about forty people We served refreshment at our home After the funeral. Beautiful flowers at service booklets sent to sick friends in the evening see opposite pg. |
