This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show March 12 Monday Nice day but rather cold 15o in am and 40o in afternoon Avon has been busy cleaning out cupboards and putting oil cloth on shelves-- self sticking kind -- nice At 2 p.m. We -- avon. Myrene, Cleone and I went to 43rd was Relief Society meeting. Relief Society to 114 Anniversary of the organization at Nauvoo with 18 members -- today there are over 2000 societies in U.S. alone well, over 100,000 members; a wonderful organization. Lydia - Ms James McGregor gave review of the Biography of Almira Cozzens Rich -- my dear wife, and gave it splendidly. In afternoon Avon and I visited the Cemetery and the market. Avon has worked practically all day fixing cuppord shelves and lining shelves with oilcloth and discarding and cleaning out they A dear daughter, Lucille Hancock brought us nice warm pudding etc. March 13 Tuesday Little snow this p.m. and little snow falling to night I attended funeral of Sister Elizabeth Riley Ballinger of 92 at 1 pm to day and I offered the benediction She was a very good LDS and an excellent woman in every respect An old friend for the past sixty years We - Avon & I, Dr Jr {} and Blanche all spent the evening there. Nice time Avon has worked all day cleaning the cupboard and lining the shelves with pretty oilcloth -- Dear girl. Rec’d letter from Zula Cole. Lottee Rich Don C Rich. Thelma Buge Browning Retire at 10-30 tired. Elizabeth R. Ballinger OGDEN -- Mrs. Elizabeth Riley Ballinger, 92, 2869 Jackson, died in an Ogden hospital Sunday morning of injuries received in a fall seven weeks ago. Born Feb. 4. 1864, in Ogden to James and Harriett Emmett Riley. Lived in Ogden all her life. Married Albert P. Ballinger Dec. 8 1886, in Logan LDS Temple. He died in 1919. Member of LDS Church, Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Survivors: two sons, J.H., Salt Lake City; P.A., Ogden; Mis Zelta Ballinger. Ogden; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist and Sons Mortuary, where friends may call Monday 6 to 9 p.m. Burial, Ogden City Cemetery. |
