Show August 10 Friday Nice day. I have been home all day day until this evening I went down town with Cleone and this evening at 7 p.m. Cleone went with me to a High Priests banquet at the 43rd ward. The 43rd ward High Priests over last’s to the enters High Priests of the East Ogden Stake A fine banquet and meeting after Jude David J Wilson and Wife were the main speakers. Geo Frost and daughter served several soups. Splendid affair this whout. Large attendance. Nice dinner I wrote to D Charles R. Smart at Philadelphia. Aug 12 56 Ruth Budge Riter Mrs. Ruth Budge Riter, 44, 685 Aloha Rd., died Saturday morning after an illness of some months. Her husband, Dr. Kersey C. Riter, died July 23. Mrs. Riter was born in Logan, a daughter of Dr. David C. and Olive Retta Bowen Budge. Surviving is a son, Samuel David Riter, Ft. Ord, 260 E. South Temple, where friends may call Tuesday after 1 p.m. Burial, Salt Lake City Cemetery. 11-12 Sat.-Sun. Pres. McKay Speaks At Rich Family Reunion at Paris, Ida. PARIS, IDAHO - President David O. McKay was a special guest and addressed a crowd of some 1,300 people which attended the annual reunion of the Charles C. Rich family here Aug. 4. People gathered from throughout the Bear Lake Valley for the afternoon meeting, held in the tabernacle, at which special honor was paid to Dr. Edward I. Rich, 88 years of age, prominent Ogden physician. Dr. Rich, a lifelong friend and associate of President McKay, is the only living member of the immediate family of 51 children of the late Elder Charles C. Rich of the Council of the Twelve. President McKay said it was an honor for him and Mrs. McKay to be invited to meet with the family, and during his remarks he paid tribute to the life and service of Dr. Rich as well as to the pioneer apostle. He related the circumstances of the latter’s conversion to the Church and told of his many courageous acts and fidelity to the Prophet Joseph Smith in Nauvoo. He spoke also of his many spiritual gifts and qualities. Lyman M. Rich, council chairman of the family group, took charge of the afternoon program, and A.M. (Kay) Rich had charge of the barbeque dinner which was followed by a social. A total of 483 family members registered during the day. A campfire program on the tabernacle grounds under the direction of Arlin Pugmire concluded the day’s activities. Members of the family during the day visited the various homes of the pioneer leader in the vicinity. |
