Show During rehearsals for the current comedy on this stage, she frequently rises at six in the morning to put in a day’s work as a television performer before driving over in the evening from her Beverly Hills apartment for her stage chore. She is also proud of the fact that she “baby sits” with her two grandchildren, the sons of her daughter, Mrs. John S. Reynolds of Pasadena. During her long and unusual career ZaSu Pitts has been called: “The greatest tragedinne of them all” - by Director Eric Von Stroheim; One of the world’s ten most beautiful women - by Artist Cecil Beaton; Possessor of one of the six most shapely pairs of ankles in Hollywood - by Physiotherapist Jerome Schattner; One of the country’s “ten worst hatted women” - by John P. John, international milliner; “The most dangerous reputation dimmer in Hollywood” … (“Just let her walk through one corner of one scene and the whole works belongs to her”) - by Harry Carr, Los Angeles Times columnist; Possessor of “the most famous hands on the screen” - by “Silver Screen” magazine; Winner of the gold medal award for the fight against communism in Hollywood - by the New York County Chapter of Catholic War Veterans; “The best baby-sitter in Pasadena” - by herself! *** A consoling remark by her Santa Cruz high school principal seems a fitting close to any biography of ZaSu Pitts….It is no secret that she was a shy, unappreciated girl through her high school days. When she tried out for the school drama club, she was rejected on the grounds that “only talented students” were eligible! And finally, one day, a great-hearted principal watching through his window saw her engage in a fist fight with some boys who had laughed at her. He became her friend, persuaded her to give a reading of “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.” And when the students laughed and she fled from the stage in tears, he was there to meet her and send her back to finish her reading with the admonition which has defined the destiny of ZaSu Pitts: “Laughter is God’s hand upon a troubled world.” Wallpaper for YOUR home!
