Lund, alternate mother, watches the presentation. ‘Wonderful...So Many Good Wishes’ Mrs. Dalton Receives Mother Trophy ‘The most wonderful thing about being Utah’s Mother of the Year is that it brought the good wishes of so many people.” With those words tiny, gray-haired Mrs. Luella Adams Dalton accepted the trophy accaliming her the state’s outstanding mother for 1956. THE TROPHY was presented to the 69-year-old mother of nine by Gov. J. Bracken Lee at ceremonies Sunday at 2 p.m. in the University Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 160 University St. (1340 East). Mrs. Dalton, who resides in Parowan, Iron County, said since she has been accorded the honor she has heard from friends, acquaintances and classmates she has not seen for years. IN PAYING tribute to the winner and to all mothers, Gov. Lee told the audience that packed the chapel: “It is the children of such mothers who have been truly rewarded.” Also accorded honors was alternate mother, Mrs. Cornelia S. Lund, Salt Lake City, who has reared a family of six. Mrs. Dalton will represent Utah at the American Mothers Committee, Inc., meeting in New York City May 7-10, where American Mother of the Year will be chosen. AMONG THE speakers Sunday was Mrs. Lavina C. Fugal, Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah and American Mother for 1955. Corsages were presented to district mothers and rose to past state winners of the title present in the audience. Presiding over the program was Mrs. Walter A. Kerr, state chairman of the American Mothers Committee. Women Cra Ballot at Lehi Session Special to The Tribune Lehi - New officers have been named for the Timpanogos First District, Utah Federation of Women’s Clubs, at the annual convention in Lehi. Mrs. Karl Bank, Pleasant Grove, was named president. Other officers elected were Mrs. Stanley M. Taylor, Lehi, first vice president; Mrs. J.D. Pyne, Oren, second vice president; Mrs. Leeman B. Bennett, Oren, recording secretary; Mrs. Frank C. Greenwood, American Fork, treasurer; Mrs. Ronald T. Price, Lehi, historian; Mrs. Vern Holindrake, American Fork, auditor. Some 200 northern Utah County clubwomen, representing 28 clubs from the district, attended the convention. Wesley P. Lloyd, Brigham Young University, was the featured speaker. The local convention committee consisted of Mrs. Paul K. Peterson and Mrs. E. Russell Innes, cochairmen; Mrs. Roosevelt Smith, Mrs. Wane E. Christensen, Mrs. John C. Ernest, Mrs. Don Southwick and Mrs. Gary Cooper, all members of the president’s council of Lehi Federated Women’s Clubs. |
