Relief Society Dedicates $1 Million S.L. Building By Jack M. Reed Tribune Church Editor “Motherhood is the greatest potential for good or ill in all of life.” President David O. McKay of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made that comment as he congratulated women of the LDS Relief Society on their accomplishments and admonished them to still greater service. He spoke Wednesday at dedicatory services of the new million-dollar Relief Society Building, North Temple and Main streets. The dedicatory service was a highlight of the opening day of the Relief Society’s annual conference, preceding the LDS Church’s semiannual general conference Friday, Saturday and Sunday. General Sessions General sessions of the church conference will be held in the Salt Lake Tabernacle at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each of those three days, with a meeting under direction of the LDS Presiding Bishopric Friday at 7 p.m. in that building, an agricultural meeting Saturday at 7:30 a.m. in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square and a priesthood meeting for male members of the church Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Tabernacle. In stressing women’s importance, President McKay Wednesday said, “Of all human influences, those of home are most far-reaching. Thoughts taught around the fireside influence the destiny of the world.” Stress Responsibilities The church leader emphasized that Relief Society Society should never circumvent the responsibilities of the home. “Not any of the responsibilities were proscribed, not any of the duties of the home were limited when the Relief Society was organized,” he said.
