Show A sad beginning to the New Year as the city loses a fine young resident. January 24, 2005 Teen killed in Weber car wreck Logistics of accident leave cops scratching their heads BY MARK GRAY Standard-Examiner staff mgray@standard.net WEST WEBER A Monday morning accident claimed the life of a teenage girl and sent another person into surgery. Police have not released the name of the deceased since her parents are out of town. Her age and hometown were also not released. Weber County Lt. Merv Taylor said the cause of the 6:50 a.m. accident is under investigation, but preliminary information suggests the driver of a westbound pickup crossed the center lane, hitting the vehicle driven by the girl head-on at 1200 S. 4100 West. "The impact was driver side to driver side," he said. Taylor said the teen driver of a Ford Focus was headed east when her car was struck, prompting it to roll. She died instantly and was pinned in the car, Taylor said. The Chevy pickup that apparently struck the Ford also rolled. The driver was taken to an area hospital for surgery. "We've gone over this time and time again and can't seem to figure out how it happened," Taylor said. The drivers in both vehicles were alone. Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor. Woman named in auto accident WEST WEBERThe victim of a fatal car accident that occurred Monday morning in West Weber has been identified as 21-year-old Rebecca June Cottam, of Marriott-Slaterville. The collision is under investigation by the Weber County Sheriff's Office. No further information on the cause of the accident is available at this time. Rebecca June Cottam |
