Show Morgan, Utah April 24, 1951 Dear Morgan County Resident: As you probably already know, the Morgan County Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, have erected a memorial building, located on the county grounds, facing the highway on which the Morgan theatre is located. The purpose of this building is to preserve the relics, pictures, papers and etc., of the Pioneer men and women who arrived in Utah before May 10th, 1869. and particularly the ones who settled in Morgan County, and to do honor to their memory, It can also, be used by any Camp Daughters of Pioneers in the County in which to hold their meetings, conventions, etc., when ever they wish, by making arrange-ments with the County president of this organization, the building is available, at a very small fee, to be rented for medium sized parties, rallies or conventions. In case you have not yet had an opportunity to visit our building, it consists of one large dining room or convention hall (tables can be moved if they are not needed), a well equipped kitchen, men's and ladies lavatories, and a relic room. The ground for this building was broken September 17th, 1948, and the building was completed and open house held March 12th, 1950. It was built at a minimum cost of $7965.07, as much of the labor was donated by civic minded people and organ¬izations of Morgan County. The officers of the County Camp, South Morgan, Mount Joy, and Peterson camps, as well as the members had worked hard for several years before this building was started, serving dinners, holding bazaars, dances, etc., and with donations from members, and individuals throughout the county, managed to raise $3000.00. Since the completion of the building they have continued to serve dinners to different organizations; the ones who were serving that particular dinner, donating much of the food that was served, so as to raise as much money as possible in order to be able to pay the remaining balance. We still owe the J. Williams and Sons Company $2,871.50, Mr. Williams and members of his company have been very liberal to us in carrying this account as long as they have, and now have offered to donate $321.50, if we can raise the balance of $2550.00 to pay this off. We, as daughters of the Utah Pioneers, feel that this building is a credit to the County, (and will be more so as soon as we get our grounds beautified, a project the Lion's Club are working on at this time), and feel that the members of Daughters of Utah Pioneers should not be left alone in this endeavor, as nearly every family in Morgan County are descendents of pioneer stock, and should have an interest in preserving for posterity the relics etc., of those hardy faithful pioneers, so we are appealing to the good residents of Morgan County to donate what ever they can to help us pay off this debt, and feel sure that you will not let us down. We as members of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, will be eternally grateful for any donation you are able to make. We would like to dedicate the building in June and it must be paid for before we can dedicate it. Please send or bring donations to the following people: Leona Clark, President; Elsie Bell, Chairman of Building Comm.; or Larue Waldron, Chairman of Finance Comm.; or any officer of the camp in your particular locality. Very truly yours Leona Clark County President Elsie Bell Chairman Building Comm. Larue Waldron Chairman of Finance Comm. |
