Show pate in the blessings we now enjoy, and I hope and pray that the Daughters will not only bring honor to the state, but to the Church that was directly responsible for carving a great state out of this western wilderness. "Wishing you all every blessing that you can desire, I am, "Faithfully yours, "George Albert Smith, President "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" FROM THE MEMBERS "While I was captain of the Archibald Gardner Camp, I worked very closely with President Carter in getting our marker No. 332 ready for dedication. The marker was for the West Jor¬dan pioneer church one-hundred-year anniversary, and was ded¬icated April 8, 1967. President Carter brought six or seven bus loads of Daughters who were attending the national convention out to the dedication. "I have worked at the D.U. P. building many times and love it there. On several occasions I would open the Pioneer Heritage books so that President Carter could autograph them. I very much treasure these memories of working with her." - Geneal Diamond, President, Far South West Salt Lake County "Here are some of the special ways in which I knew Pres¬ident Kate B. Carter: "At the time my mother, LaNola Callister Driggs, was pres¬ident of the Liberty Ward Relief Society, Kate B. Carter was president of the Relief Society in the Second Ward. When my mother became Liberty Stake Relief Society president, she and Kate became close friends. "In 1951 we moved to Eugene, Lane County, Oregon. I missed my D.U.P. very much, so wrote to President Carter ask¬ing how to establish a camp. She answered my letter promptly. In the spring of 1955 I had enough members to start a camp and was elected captain. I wrote President Carter and she personally came to Eugene in May 1955, and established the Lane County Oregon D.U.P. organization consisting of four camps. I was elected county president. She has made many yearly trips to Eugene for our conventions and everyone loved the way she was able to discuss problems to make them come out on the bright side. "She was a wonderful writer. Through the lessons she edited, many of us were able to find more information concern¬ing our genealogy." Alice Driggs Olsen, Lane County, Oregon |
