Six Local Teams Eighth Ward Five Outscores Kansas City Court Quint Colorful Exhibition Pleases Fans At Weber Gymnasium; Hill and Morris Each Score Five Points; Brown-ing Is Leading Point-Getter For Titleholders By A. F. W. SANTA FE TRAIL hoopsters, national A. A. U champions, gained a 68 to 35 decision over six Ogden bas-ketball teams in a unique court attraction at the Weber gymnasium last night. The Kansas City aggregation displayed a smooth passing attack, splendid ball rustliwr and all-around power on the court. —The champions trotted out four All-Americans in Captain Herman Fisher, Omar Browning, Ed Weir and Piper. This quartet provided a dazzling performance. Browning led the attack with 15 points. In fact the entire team play ot the Stage Liners was superb. They made mistakes of course, but they sent the fans away well pleased with the exhibition. During the entire contest, which lasted 48 minutes, each team playing eight minutes against the champ¬ions, the Stage Liners took decisions against them with a smile—a all champions should. In fact the sportsmanship of fee champions was the finest ever of¬fered on an Ogden court. Ogden Eleventh opened the com¬petition against the champions. They were outscored 13 to 8. Weber High gave a dazzling per¬formance by scoring 8 points wihile the champions were recording 11, Ogden Eighth ward, church M men's champions, put on the stam and outscored the title holders, 6 to 4. Ogden Eighth used only five men. Ogden High, runners-up in the state scholastic tournament last eason, failed to break into the scoring column. The Tigers appeared nerv¬ous and many members of the team tried on many occasions to lay 'em in from the center of the court, without any success. Marriott collected nine points but finished on the short end of an 18 to 9 score. Marriott won the dis-tinction of scoring the most points against the champions. Weber College cagemen closed the program by scoring four points as against ten for the Stage Liners. Hill of Eleventh and Morris of Marriott led the rival cagers in scoring with five points each. The attraction was one of the best offered in Ogden in years, yet the gate was only $94, far below the guarantee given the Stage Liners. |
