Show CENTRAL IN FIRST TILT WITH DELTA Weber Courtiers Snare Fourteenth Post in State Meet At 1:30 o'clock on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 18, Central high school of Castle Dale, runner-up in the Region Five round robin tourney, and Delta, Millard district champion, will officially pry the lid off the 1936 state high school tournament in the Deseret gym. The pairings for opening round games were released Wednesday by C. Oren Wilson, secretary of the Utah State High School Athletic association. The complete opening round schedule: Upper Bracket Ogden vs. Ephraim, 8:30 p. m. Uintah vs. Murray, 7:30 p. m. Nephi vs. North Summit, 6:30 p. m. Dixie vs. winner of Provo vs. Spanish Fork game, to be played Friday. Lower Bracket Davis vs. Logan, 3:30 p. m. Salina vs. Weber, 2:30 p. m. Delta vs. Central, 1:30 p. m. American Fork vs. winner of Granite-Morgan playoff game, to be played Friday. Weber became the fourteenth club to clinch a post in the annual clas¬sic Wednesday, the Warriors de-feating South Rich, 36 to 21, at Ogden to gain the third position in Region One. Ogden, Logan-Ogden district champion, and Logan, dis¬trict runnerup, had previously gained posts in the tourney. Thomas Leads Mates Led by Thomas, crack forward, the Warriors went into action in a hurry against last year's consola¬tion title winner in the state meet, scoring 13 points in the first period. The Rich crew, on the other hand, was obviously nervous, making only three points. The Rich district champion played: its best ball in the second canto, tallying three field goals and one, from the foul line as Weber was limited to a single goal from the floor. The Warriors held a 15 to10 lead at the half. With fourteen of the sixteen posts in the meet already clinched, prep fans sit back and await two play-off encounters, Morgan and Granite being scheduled to clash Fri¬day in the North Summit high school gym at Coalville at 8 p. m. and Provo and Spanish Fork being lined up for a Saturday game in the Payson high school gym at the same hour. Morgan recorded a 27 to 26 victofy over Wasatch rivals Tuesday to clinch the runnerup spot in the Summit district race and Granite dropped a 33 to 13 decision to the hustling Murray five to drop to third place in the Jordan sector. Playing at North Summit, Morgan is rated a slight edge, having per-formed on this court at least three times during the past six weeks. The Trojans hold one victory over Granite this year, having defeated the Farmers in a preseason game. This, however, cannot be taken for much as both clubs are much more polished than they were at the time of the original skirmish, Granite's touted defense proved j fruitless in the face of the speedy attack unlimbered by Murray Tuesday, and if the Farmers show the same type of ball against the hustling Trojans they may be out of the tourney for the first time in many years. Provo Favored Provo is ranked as a favorite over Spanish Fork, but the Bulldogs, defeated Tuesday by American Fork, 29 to 24, have slipped a bit in the last hectic rush for the Alpine title and they may not be at full strength for the crucial Friday struggle. Spanish Fork has rested for nearly two weeks and will be at top form. The box score of the Weber-South Rich game: WEBER G t fp Thomas rf 5 0 0 10 Wimmer if. 3 0 0 6 G.
