Show Ogden Rallies To Trim Preston; Weber Defeated Bear River Meets Second Defeat In Northern Circuit Izatt Leads Attack For Logan; Warner Stars For Ogden Five Logan, South Cache and Ogden High hoopsters remained in the thick of the northern division basketball race today as the result of victories registered Friday night. Bear River suffered her second setback of the season and is now in fourth place. The Bears were turned back by North Cache, 25 to 17 in a spirited contest. Ogden High downed Preston, 37 to 19, but only after a rally staged in the final periods of play. Logan easily upset Box Elder 38 to 22 and South Cache upset Weber 40 to 24 in the other league battles. Preston jumped into an early lead and held a 7-5 advantage at the end of the first period and was out in front 15 to 10 at the half. The Tigers offered a stubborn defense in the final periods and at the same time started to hit the hoop. In the final periods they collected 27 points as against only four for Preston. Ogden collected only one field goal in the first half, a bucket by Wayment. In the final two periods they went into high gear, soon overcame the lead of the Preston five and were never headed. Warner, Packham and Stewart led the Ogdenites in scoring. Logan led throughout their game with Box Elder. Ed Izatt was again the big scorer for the Grizzlies with 16 points. Hansen led the Bees in scoring. M. Maughan and Baugh were outstanding in the 40 to 24 triumph of South Cache over Weber. Childs, guard, was the best scorer for Mark Ballif's team. Bear River's defeat came as a surprise as the Bears had tasted only one defeat at the hands of Ogden, and had downed South Cache last week.
