Show Spartan Clan Stages Upset In Region One South Cache Hands Favored Grizzlies 23-21 Setback; Ogden Victor The Spartans of South Cache high school fired a shot which echoed over the entire length and breadth of the Logan-Ogden district of re¬gion one Friday when they came back from the short end of a 12-4 score at halftime and rang up a 23 to 21 victory over the highly touted Grizzlies of Logan in an extra pe-riod game which for sheer thrills has never been surpassed in nor¬thern Utah play. Tigers Come Through In other league games played Friday, the Tigers of Ogden high school notched up their second consecutive triumph by taming a speedy Weber high crew, 27 to 20, and Bear River continued its victory march with a 31 to 24 victory over Box Elder. Logan, with a 60 to 19 victory over Preston last week to its credit, found the defense of the Spartans just too tough to crack at critical junctures and the lads from Hyrum gave home town fans something to talk about by their determined comeback in the second half against the talented Grizzly pack. Seth Maughan, all-state fullback in football, tallied 10 points, most of them in the second half as the Spartans, turning in the best game they ever played against Logan, drove home their second straight triumph and advanced to a tie with Ogden and Bear River for first place in the Logan-Ogden district standings. The well balanced Ogden quint, runnerup for state title honors last season, held a 17 to 4 lead over We¬ber at the end of the second quarter, but the Warriors made things inter¬esting with a great second half rally. Johnson Tallies 11 Johnson of Weber chalked up 11 points to carry off scoring honors in the game. With Welling, speedy forward, hitting the ehoop for 13 points, Bear River hoopsters recorded their sec¬ond straighth triumph for the first time in many years as they nicked the Bees for their 31-24 triumph. The winners led throughout, quarter scores being 7-5, 16-11 and 24-19.
