9-21-18 There’s every inclination here of preparations to move soon but I don’t know what to believe. I guess we won’t stay long though. Character Sketch John Earl Love, who is No 1 in the front rank of our squad is a lad from the Teton Basin of Idaho living somewhere around St Anthony He is originally from Salt Lake and is a very clean and quiet fellow one whom I like. In fact I think I’m in a very good squad as a whole. Love is quite devoted to his rifle and spends quite a lot of time cleaning it. He doesn’t swear much in his daily talk like Rhamey or Pugh nor is he as crazy about “chicken” (20) as they seem to be. He will make a good soldier and in a battle will give a good account of himself. I didn’t take my trip to San Fran yesterday I was waiting for Parker to come when the 1st Sergeant came to my tent and gave me orders to report to the Personnel Office and so I worked there until 10 oclock last night and have to work again today. It seems like old times to be tapping a typewriter again but I was sure disappointed though but you have to take all that in the army I found three letters and a box of candy (Jessie McF) awaiting me on my return so that made me feel quite cheerful again
