Show must have been around here somewhere when he wrote “When the frost is on the pumpkin and the fodder’s on the shock” Thursday Oct 24th 1918 We came to Davenport Iowa about 8:30 last night the last city in Iowa on the banks of the Mississippi River. Crossed over to Rock Island Ill. and after a stop of about an hour went on to Chicago which we reached about 3 o’clock this morning All I saw of it was a lot of lights and dirty tenements We are now crossing Indiana Have Passed South Bend and Elkhart. We’ll probably reach NY City tomorrow sometime 30 Camp Mills N.Y. Sat Oct 25th Arrived in Camp last night about Eight o’clock after an hour or so waiting at New York. The last lap of the trip was sure a dandy, down the banks of the Hudson for about forty miles. Very beautiful view from the train window, quaint old fashioned villages and the blue Catskills in the distance We sail tomorrow if we can get ready by that time, otherwise we’ll be here a month Hope we go as I’m sick of this camp already All in the open, and no conveniences at all. There’s some mail in Camp. but they haven’t called it off yet Hope theres some for me. Lord what a city New York is. Its sure a sight to behold and one I’ll never forget. |
