Friday Oct 11th 1918 Well my guess was correct as to our moving We are to go sometimes next week, so our Captain of Co.E told the men yesterday No one seems to know however whether its to France or to Siberia but I’m still in hopes that we’ll go to France and that we’ll go East through Ogden (and Green River). We are all quite pleased at the thought of moving from here and getting across as life here is getting rather monotonous. Mother wrote me yesterday that John and his family are down with Spanish Flu I’m a little troubled over it as it is so dangerous. We haven’t any in this Camp and if the quarantine is enforced we wont get any. 25 Wednesday Oct 16th 1918 Haven’t written anything in my Journal for several days and don’t feel much like writing today Heard on Mondy from Dad that John was very sick with Pneumonia and last night John Parker brought me a paper from home containing the notice of his death on Saturday, the 12th. Don’t know why I haven’t heard from the folks about it, Either They think Ive left here or Else Their message is held up To say I was shocked is putting it mildly I feel stunned. and am worried to death about the folks at home. Couldn’t sleep last night thinking about Mother and worrying for fear she’ll come down with that terrible disease. Its awful
