Show Tuesday Dec 10th 1918 We have moved into our new quarters, out on our tent area on Plot 293. We have quite a nice tent and will make it quite comfortable if we stay here long and there’s nothing definite in our going so far; only rumors - and hope. I went over to the Company Barracks and got my mail (a letter from Bonnie and a Xmas card from Minnie Brown) and while there looked over the bulletins on the door and noticed that I’m now listed as a First Class Private. Pretty good Eh? Made me feel fine Its the best job in the army. $3.00 pen, more pay Thursday Dec 12th 1918 Tomorrow is the day Pres Wilson comes to Brest on his way to Paris Wish I was lucky enough to be among those who are to go down to act as his Escort. Gen Pershing is coming from the front to meet him. Got a letter from dad a few nights ago stating that my Christmas Box has been mailed on the 16th of November It should be here now and I wish I had it and also that I could have sent something home for Christmas but no pay days make soldiers broke and so for the first time, I’ll make no gifts this Christmas shorthand |
