Show Standard Oct 10 54. Metropolitan Engages Anderson. The strange aspect of the news that Marian Anderson, contralto, will sing at the Metropolitan is that it was so long delayed. Toscanini declared that Miss Anderson had the kind of voice that is bestowed only once in a centurr. You would have thought the Metropolitan management would have rushed to obtain such a voice. But no. Silly racial prejudice had to intervene. It is sad to contemplate that this prejudice vanished in the sports world long before the art world as represented by the Metropolitan changed its ways. But better late than never is probably the appropriate comment. Monday October 11, 1954. Nice day. Cleone & I went to Salt Lake to attend funeral of Mrs. John F Snedaker who died in California old friend. Made arrangements to have Deseret Publishing Co publish Myras biography. Nothing special.
