With Love to MothersIt is easy to be sentimental about such tilings as home and mother, but it is far easier to be cynical so easy, in fact, that we are quite sure the cynics dont know what they are talking about.These thoughts are provoked by the celebration of Mothers Day an occasion marked by the heartfelt response of the majority, while a minute minority mutters darkly of commercialism. Where does commercialism come in? If families wish to show their love of mother, what better way to do it than with flowers or some small remembrance? It is only the gift without the giver that can be tagged with commercialism, and there are very, very few such bare gifts on Mothers Day.In passing, we would offer a word of advice to the artists who picture mother as a gray haired woman wearing silver rimmed spectacles. Not even grandma looks like that nowadays. Grandma is almost as trim and slim as mom who often looks like her teenage daughters older sister. Youth is the word young mothers, young fathers, all are young in heart.And then we say, God bless you, mother, one and all. Mothers living and mothers who have gone beyond. Words are poor pay, but these words are minted in sincerity. If only the love we tell you could be one tenth as great as the love you have given us.
