Douglas Stringfellow made his confession on Saturday night and later resigned as a candidate for reelection.Dr. Henry Aldous Dixon, president of Utah State Agricultural College, who consented to be the partys nominee for Congress in place of Stringfellow, is an admired figure throughout Utah where he has a wide acquaintance.It seems certain that the contest between Dr. Dixon and Walter K. Granger for the office of representative in Congress from the First Utah District will be lively, interesting to watch, and a race likely to bring out the voters in large numbers on election day.Meanwhile, Mr. Stringfellows resignation as a candidate before the Central Committee had a chance to take action either in favor or against his continuing as a candidate was a wise and courageous action.His decision to start the road back toward public respect the hard way and his decision to tell all Saturday night took more courage than the exploits behind enemy lines that he imagined.We believe that Stringfellow has done the right thing in the circumstances and that the public will give him every break on his way back.
