Show TIGERS TAKE SIXTH EVENT IN NEW RACE Chuck Norton Leads Local Team In Scoring; Meet North Cache Next By LOUIS GLADWELL Only four obstacles remained to¬day in the path of the fast-stepping Ogden Tigers as they continued . their victory march to the state high school basketball tournament by upsetting the South Cache cage cart, 39 to 27, Tuesday night at Weber college gymnasium; The Tigers, with five players hovering close to the six-foot mark, should easily dispose of their re¬maining regional competition—North Cache, Box Elder, Bear River and Weber high schools. Their encounter last night with the Spartans was characterized by fast breaking, fine passing, little dribbling and much under-basket fighting The first quarter saw both clubs share the scoring in see-saw fashion—with the visitors enjoying a brief-3-5 advantage at one stage. The Orange Streaks came right back, with fine shooting by Norton and Aguirre, to tie the count and shoot out in front 11-7 at the end of the canto. The Tigers continued to crack the strings from all angles and dis¬tances to be out in front 23 to 11 at the intermission, and advanced to a 32 to 19 lead at the third heat. Despite the score, the game featured some of the best passing of the cur¬rent hoop race from both teams. Adding their usual color and goodwill, the Ogden R. O. T. C. band kept the show at a fast tempo during the no-playing junctures, while the girls of the pep club displayed their traditional fine sportsmanship at the half. The game was attended by an overflowing house. The Tigers journey to North Cache Thursday for a matinee engagement. Norton led the attack with 14 points. OGDEN CONTINUES VICTORIOUS MARCH WEBER TIPS PRESTON IN FAST SCRAP Logan Scores Triumph in Speedy Battle Over Bear River Ogden high school cagers still remain perched atop their district j race by virtue of a 32 to 28 triumph over North Cache Friday afternoon at Richmond, but the plucky northrn aggregation, defeated in six straight contests, gave the high-geared Tigers their sternest test of the season. Logan, runnerup last season, bids fair to remain the same again this campaign, the Grizzlies humbling an inspired Bear River crew, 37 to 25. Weber took undisputed posses¬sion of third place in the stand¬ings by defeating Preston, 27 to 23, and Box Elder tripped South Cache, 34 to 33, thereby just about killing the tourney hopes of the Spartans. North Cache Leads North Cache, showing the results of long hours of intensive drill in an effort to acquire the coaching technique of Jay Whitman, former B. Y. U. ace, led the Tigers, 7 to 6, at the end of the first quarter. In the second session the larger Tigers took a lead and at the half were ahead, 14 to 11. From there on the rampant Ogden machine was the j aggressor, but the Richmond outfit was always in the ball game. Logan was given a spirited scrap, particularly in the first two quarters, by Bear River, but the Grizzlies, led by the speedy Ed Izatt, elongated forward who scored 14 points, was the better club in tle second half. Weber, trailing, 18 to 19, at the end of the third session, put on a thrilling rally in the final canto to emerge victorious over the speedy Indians. Wimmer, with 9 points, Was high scorer for Weber. Braegger Outstanding Wallace Braegger, all-state quar¬terback last season, proved adept at hitting the hoop as Box Elder scuttled the South Cache array, 34 to 33. Wally tallied 15 points to snare high point honors. Carlson, South Cache center, led his team's scoring with 12 points. The Bees tallied 12 points in the final quarter to overcome a 7-point deficit at the end of the third ses-sion, the score at that time being 29 to 22 for the Spartans. The scores: ogden g.t.f.P.
