Show Benson Clears Belongings From RetreatWASHINGTON, Feb. 16 (UP) Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson has removed all his personal belongings from the government owned cottage he and his family used occasionally as a mountain hideaway, it was disclosed Tuesday.Newspaper stories revealed last month that the Agriculture Department had fixed up a cottage near Front Royal, Va.; which Bensons family had been using as a retreat. Benson said at the time there was nothing out of the way about this thing and he had nothing to hide.The House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee released a statement by Benson Tuesday in which he said he had removed all his belongings from the cottage because of his desire that things not only be right, but also seem right. Bensons belongings consisted of the kitchen utensils and dishes, a sofa, a chair and a small chest of drawers and two beds.The two bedroom cottage, built years ago for Army officers, is located on an Agriculture Department beef cattle experimental station near Front Royal, about 70 miles from Washington. It has a breathtaking view of the Shenandoah Mountains. |
