9-19-‘18 Character Sketch today is: Walter G Pugh, a rough and ready sort of fellow, but a most interesting character. He hails from Oregon City Oregon and has spent most of his time out in the open roughing it He sure uses the language of the lumber camp, and like Rhamey seems to delight in the obscene and profane in even his every day speech But his heart is right and a big heart it is. He’ll do anything for you that he possibly can Even depriving himself to do it, If I Ever am on the field of battle and in a tight place I’d like to be alongside of Walt Pugh for he’s absolutely unafraid and keeps cool. He’ll make some of the flat heads take notice if he ever goes over the top. In spite of (19) his roughness, I can look beneath it all and find Enough of good to call him a friend and he can and is a real friend, one whom I’ll always remember. Saturday Sept. 21st 1918. Rain again this morning WE had no inspection but were given an examination on all that we’ve had in the I.S. I think I’ll get by allright Parker and I are going to Frisco again today, and I hope to see something of the town. I want to get some Souvenirs of the Chinatown if possible shorthand I also want to see Golden Gate Park and the Cliff House and some other places of interest while there, May hunt up Marie’s friend on Hayes St.
