SCHOOL CALLS PUBLIC TO SEE CADETS'REVIEW Three Trophies Will Be Awarded At Stadium Maneuvers Three honor trophies will be awarded at the annual inspection and review of the Ogden High school reserve officers' training corps unit, to be held Thursday at two-thirty in Ogden stadium. Col. Jerome G. Pillow, San Francisco, representing the army Ninth corps area, will conduct the inspection. The Kanzler-Mills trophy will go to the company receiving the highest rating in the company drill competition Thursday afternoon, while the American Legion cup will be awarded to the company having the best record for attendance and neatness during the entire school year. An award known as the Paramount-Publix trophy will be presented to the platoon winning the platoon drill competition. CROWD ANTICIPATED. Four hundred students, composing four companies and the R. O. T. C. band, will participate in the competition. High school pupils will attend the inspection and the public is cordially invited to be present, according to A. M. Merrill, principal of Ogden High school, who stated that he expected a large crowd in the stadium to witness the proceeding's. The Ogden R. O. T. C. unit has been an honor unit for the nine consecutive years. This record is remarkable when it is considered that there are eight western states in this, the Ninth corps area, and that only eight or nine honor units are selected from this corps area each year. The Ogden unit has always been noted for its proficiency in drill formations and movements, and fori its neat, soldier-like appearance. In fact, the fame of the Ogden cadets for consistent efficiency in drill has spread to several nearby states, and in some of these at least Ogden is known as the "Little West Point." Though competition is becoming keener for the honor positions each year, Ogden observers predict that the local unit will repeat the performance of past years and retain its honor rating for the tenth consecutive year. ON STREET CARS. Through the courtesy of P. H. Mulcahy, general manager of the U. I. C. railroad, the cadets will be transported free of charge by street cars to and from the stadium. Judges of the drill competitions will be Major Charles L. Hughes, O. R. C.; Capt. W. G. Dockum, F. A., and Capt. Everett M. Graves, F. A. |
