Qj The fence makers on our new camp- ca us addition planted cement at the C1 bottom of the post holes so the posts r will not sink and thus cause uneven- ness of the fence. When the fence Q is up and the grounds seeded we shall have a real athletic field. Believe us, we are going to appreciate and enjoy it. Thanks kindly, board J of education. A FINE ADDRESS . The Rev. W. B. Williams of the Congregational church gave a most ' interesting address before the fac- ulty Monday evening. His subject p ; was "The Art of Blaming." He characterised people generally as . "buck passers" and blamers. Hus- , bands blame wives, wives blame hus- st ' bands, parents blame children, chil- tl dren blame parents. We blame one d another, we blame Wall street, we o: blame the government, we blame b: foreign countries. Teachers blame h students, and students blame teach- lj ers. We blame one another; in fact, we have the very bad habit of " "blaming" and the worst of it is a "blaming" does no good, but it does j much harm. It is a habit we must v overcome. a A BRAND NEW ERA Supt. L. John Nutall of Salt Lake City schools says we are facing a brand new era. Ever in the past, U we have had to worry about getting c things to eat and to wear. There 1 was perpetual fear. We are not ob- sessed longer with that feat for we know that we can produce ample at minimum effort. There is bound to be much leisure time in the fu- ' ture, which should do much for our ' creative and artistic impulses. . In this new era there will be , neither poverty nor charity. These are banned. We must cease to regard work as the great virtue. It almost becomes a vice. Play, recreation, creation, these are the virtues of the future. This is not an evolution of the past -it is a revolution. How are we to fit into this new society, this new age? That is the paramount question, both for teachers and parents.; MARBLE TOURNAMENT A big marble tournament is now in the making. The lads to represent the Orange and Black will be the knickered lads of Ogden High. Each contestant will be allowed one second, to handle the smelling salts and revive his master in the gory battle. The sockless lads of O.H.S. will defend the championship against the mighty half socks of Polk school. The meet will take place at three-; thirty Thursday in the stadium back of O.H.S. Regulation rules will be carried out. Jack "Lilly" Watson, Clair "Daisy" Jackson, Wayne "Pansy" Bachman, and Ken "Violet" Williams will be representatives of Ogden High school-Star Reporter. HEAR YE! HEAR YE! Do you want a souvenir to re- you get old and gray? Then here's your chance-A chance of a life time! The noise makers booth will be amply supplied with grab bag souvenirs for each and every person. Get yours!- F. L. COMIC SESSION Congress held a very humorous . session Monday night. The order of the day was a debate, but what a s debate! As we were growing weary ! of war debts, bi-metalism, prohi- i bition, etc., we decided to have a humorous debate. It was exceedingly funny. The question under discussion was ' "Resolved: That the Ford is an i animal." Mary Paquette and Marjorie Glines upheld the affirmative ; while Marion Hill debated the negative. When asked for criticism, everyone was still speechless. Though ; these debates may sound silly, I a wish to say that they are almost as hard to prepare as those on really g deep subjects. Here's hoping we can e have similar debates again soon.- i- Mary Paquette. e TWENTY YEARS AGO d Twice during the past month i- "The Twenty Years Ago column of ir The Standard-Examiner has recalled interesting things about our high e school. The first was "the board se of education is contemplating an assembly and gymnasium addition to is the high school." The second read ss something like this: "The students n, of Ogden High school are going out e. to solicit subscriptions to build an st addition to the high school." |
