Classicalia Program Causes Sore Throats Easy To Obtain Costume For Dance, According To Skit OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Parke Petterson, Editor; Barbara ; Kimball and Marjorie Wood, Associate Editors The Classicalia assembly Friday caused a great many sore throats. Mr, Merrill made an announcement concerning our grand piano, after which Reed Gammell advertised the program which the Music club of Ogden will sponsor April 4. Helen Brophy, Gwen Straguist and Grant Goddard presented a skit showing how easily we can obtain a costume for the Classacalia. The great fight, Max Loll vs. "Tarzan" Nelson, was immensely! enjoyed. Marvin Bingham and Richard Swenson played harmonica duet. The school auctioneer, Grant Aadneson explained the rules and regulations of the bidding. Phi Lambda and S. O. S. gained possession of the Soda Water booth, $265; Zeta Phi Xi got the balloon booth, $235; Beta Zeta Tau and A. D. M. have the ice cream booth, $266; Carpe and I. W. O. have the pea- i nuts, $110; Joie Francaise and Gregg Artists have the Noise Makers, $200; Carpe and I. W. O. have the candy; Beta Zeta Tau and A. D. M. have the Side Show $400; Alpha Sigma has the Fortune Telling $121. We had two accordian solos by Eugene Hassing, Good Night Veienna, and Poor Butterfly. Assembly adjourned. SEE "YEOMEN OF THE GUARD" There is a chorus of 75, an orchestra of 30 pieces and 15 principals in the cast. Mr. Hanson says: Although the final cast has not yet been chosen, we are spending every effort to make it one of the biggest and finest productions ever given in Ogden High school. The tentative date is April 21, and admission will probably be by student body ticket. Make every effort to see "Yeomen of the Guard" or you'll regret it all your life.-Mary Paquette. S. O. S. SIGN Have you seen the S. O. S. sign in the hall? Well, it will give a fair idea of what effort the clubs are making to win the picture in the year book. Every club in the school is making a bid for the honors. Some of the clubs are: Alpha Sigma, S. O. S. Amigos del Mundo, Zeta Phi Zi, Phi Lambda Tau and others. Many are making up ways to help get more tickets sold. But my vote goes to Zeta, remember people support Hazel and Zeta.- Burp. TUESDAY EVENING, MARCH 28, 1933. Many Desire To See New Contest Series School Offers Thanks To All Who Assisted In Entertainment OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Parke Petterson, Editor; Barbara Kimball and Marjorie Wood, Associate Editors The gym was packed to capacity last Friday for the smokeless smoker. We believe that it was the best patronized smokeless smoker this school has ever seen. While in conversation with some of the spectators both young and old, we find Miat the main subject is "When is the next one?" This will have to I be settled in the near future. The committee wishes to thank all those who took part, and especially those not registered at the school. They are: Al Dawson, M. L. Christenson, Jack Burke, Young Dinsdale, Parley Johnsen, Dan Milligan, Bud Nichols, Owen Gladwell, Howard Berret, Rudgar Thornike, Fred Herring Junior Mark, Jack Doone, Hal Paterson, Bob Johnston, Roland Ogden, Utah Power and Light Co., and the Standard Examiner. Lastly J we wish to thank all those from Ogden High that took part. We i don't believe that it will be neces- . sary to announce these boys because we are more or less acquainted with them. We never dreamed there was so much wrestling and boxing talent in this school until we saw the per-' formance last Friday. There always has to be somebody do something wrong every time an athletic event is held. During the smokeless smoker a pair of oxfords was stolen from one of the fighters. Fortunately we have enough evidence to force the now known thief to return the shoes. Smoker Committee- JOIE FRANCAISE If you had looked through the window of Fern Larson's home last Wednesday night, you would have been very much amused. Seated on the floor were two very much bedraggled pledges who looked as though they had just participated iin an Indian war dance. They were i enjoying a "luncheon" of half beaten egg whites and soda crackers. Nevertheless, these pledges are now members of Joie Francaise. They are Dorothy Van Dyke andj Nedra Tribe. We welcome these girls into our club and we hope they will i enjoy it as much as we do. Now, we hope that everyone will be at the Classicalia, and that no,. one will forget the French club noise makers. Edith Bush- SPRING SPORTS In the spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of- sport. The call was sounded last Thursday night for spring football aspirants and was answered by about 30 high school juniors and about 10 junior high school hopefuls. The chances of the Tigers next fall will be good as there are many of last year's squad in suits now, and also many who are busy training for the track team and who are leaving football until next fall. There are only two of last year's regulars who will not be graduated and it is around these two that Coach Simpkins hopes to build a team that will be a good contender for the division bunting. Friday night marked the first day of practice for the track squad. There are three of last year's contestants in suits and many juniors of this year who are trying for one of the coveted positions on our division championship team. Bud Ellis, Lee Boerens and Dick Alkema will form the nucleus of this year's squad as they are the only remaining part of last year's team. Jack Bennet,- ELECTION SPEECH If one girl is more deserving of every honor than her opponent, why shouldn't she have it? If ;we put Paine in as queen, we will have the one girl who is deserving of that position as well as every other high honor we can offer her. Why do they always say thtt Hazel has no position worth Wjrtlgt Is she not president of the pifl'i association? Why debase that position by calling it nothing? Hazel has one of the highest honors possible for a student of the Ogden High school to attain, being president of the mighty girls association. The girls elected her, so come on boys, and elect Dorothy to the final honor that is left her this year. BAND PLAYED The Ogden High school band played for the large group of Salvation Army workers at the beginning of their drive for funds this morning at the chateau. The army Is doing , a magniflaent piece of work in 1 Ogden and we are glad to offer our help. RUINED BARON TAKES LIFE Once a prominent figure in the highest society of Vienna, Austria, Baron von Mertens, aged 84, shot himself in the Heinrichshof building, opposite the Vienna Opera House. During the World War the baron acquired $60,000,000 but as a result of the conflict and subsequent inflation he lost it all, and he and his wife had to enter a home for the poor. PREMIER'S SON ARCHITECT Alister MacDonald, son of the Prime Minister, has turned architect and has designed London's smallest motion picture theater. It seats only 300 people, is attractively decorated and very comfortable. The big feature is that each row contains only six seats, which does away to a great extent with the annoyance caused by people having to squeeze past those already seated. |
