Through a plot of Sergeant Merryll's, with the aid of his son and daughter, Leonard and Phoebe, Fairfax escapes prison and joins the Yeomen. However, Fairfax first marries Elsie without her knowing who he is. Jack Point, the Jester, Wilfred, the Jailor, and Dame Carruthers furnish interesting incidents to the happy conclusion of a dubious marriage and the real identity of Fairfax.
