Weber 5 1 .833 Ogden 3 2 .600 Box Elder 3 3 .500 Bear River 0 5 .000 Tuesday's Schedule Ogden at Bear River. Ogden High hoopsters, state champions, still smarting under the effects of their 45 to 31 defeat at the hands of Weber Friday night, are determined to down the Bear River aggregation in their postponed game Tuesday night. This event will be played at Bear River and promises to be a thriller. In a contest between the two teams at the start of the season Ogden downed the Bears 22 to 19 on the Tiger court. Blocked highways two weeks ago prevented the play of the scheduled game. Ogden must defeat Bear River to prevent a deadlock for second place in the Ogden circuit. A setback would necessitate a play off with Box Elder for the runner-up position. In the event that the Tigers stop Bear River they will then be forced to meet Preston, Cache runner-up, for the right to play the Rich division winner. The winner of the final game with the Rich champions will perform as one of the contestants in the state tournament at Salt Lake in March. WEBER RESTS Weber High will take It easy this coming week but will play at least two practice games before enrolling in the state tournament for the third consecutive season. If the Tigers gain their expected victory over Bear River the semi final game with Preston will be played in Ogden March 7. HANSEN LEADS Hansen of Box Elder continues to hold the top position in scoring in the Ogden division. He has collected 68 points in six games. His point getting includes 28 field goals. Powell of Weber is a close second with 59 poits with Dieu and Spilsbury, both of Weber, deadlocked for third place with 53 points each. Kennedy of Ogden with 50 and Greenwell of Ogden with 35 points are next in line. Spilsbury tops the centers and Greenwell stands out as the leading point getter among the guards. The second squad features two Weberites, and one each from Ogden, Box Elder and Bear River. Hansen of Box Elder and Powell of Weber are named as the first team forwards. These two men do everything well and are especially strong in the scoring department. I Hansen is the leading point getter of the league and Dieu is a close I second. Both men, incidentally are fine dribblers. Maurice Kennedy of Ogden is placed at center over Spilsbury of Weber. The newcomer has displayed unusual ability and is a much stronger performer than the Warrior ace. Greenwell of Ogden and McLean of Weber, two sterling guards, are named for the guard line positions. They have displayed fine performances in the present Ogden division race and have been big factors in the showings of their respective j teams. Captain Bud Ellis of the i; Ogden machine and Jules Dieu of Weber rate the second team forward positions. Ellis is perhaps the ; outstanding ball rustler of the league, but his scoring capers have been held down by the guards of the circuit. Dieu, on the other hand is an expert at point getting and would make a nice running mate for Ellis. Spilsbury is named as the second team center. This chap lacks the polish of Kennedy, yet is a splendid performer. Walker of Box Elder and Harris of Bear River are honored with the j second team guard positions. Both (men sparkled in practically every game they played in during the 1933 campaign. MONDAY EVENING, FEB Suggestions Regardi RUARY 27. 1933 Asked ng Banner Three Organizations Are Going Ahead With Fund Plans OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Parke Petterson, Editor Barbara Kimball and Marjorie Wood Associate Editors As most of you know by now, we are trying to get a school banner. A miniature of the one that has been chosen has been on Mr. Merrill's desk for some time. It is a very pretty banner and one any school would be proud of. But we face the inevitable con- 1 elusion that we will have to pay for it. The price may seem enormous, but the flag is well worth the price. The most important thing we face now is: How are we going to raise the money? The Girls' association has ar- 1 ranged a carnival for March 10. The . price of admission will be announc- , ed later. I-Wannan-O and S. O. S. : are going to sponsor a smokeless ; smoker, details of which will also be announced later. But what is the rest of the school . going to do? Are we going to sit idly by and let a small fraction of ! our student body raise the needed ; money? If I know anything about the old Ogden High spirit, I would i say emphatically "no." Come on, "students', let's get behind this proj- ect. Your suggestions are as good! 1 as mine, so let's hear them.-"R." ; FACULTY, STUDENT 1 I do not think our school dances' are democratic enough. For onej .reason the price is rather high fori - the ordinary high school boy or girl. 1 Who brought about this idea of 1 not going "stag" to school dances? ; Other high schools do not put a ; limit or such on "stags." When a E girl, especially, goes "stag" to a ..school dance, she has a feeling that ; she is being left out. It might be i all right not to go "stag" for some ; of the students, because they always fhave dates, but what about the or- 1 dinary students who do not get 1 dates? 3 The price for a single admission is just the same as the price for a I couple and so it discourages the or- ; dinary student. The high school I parties are just being arranged so the ones that have a little money j can go. Other schools do not : charge tip-top prices. Why should i we ? ' What our school needs is a more : democratic spirit in relation to our school dances and parties. All our „ school has is dances and games. Why can't we have something different? School spirit can be created through school assemblies etc., but why not have some recreation for the students wo do not get a chance to go to school dances This is just my own opinion, so you may take It as you like.-An Ordinary student. CLASSICALIA NEXT Our next big school function is the annual Classicalia dance-the carnival, costume, whoopee danco I at which we try to have a good time and, incidentally, to make some money to help publish the yearbook. jThe purpose is laudable, especially las our yearbook becomes, annually, more artistic and beautiful, more Representative of our school life, jand the one handrome souvenir that the school offers to all its stu- idents. We understand that committees are already being formed and work has begun that will make Sthe '33 Classicalia the biggest and 'best ever. More anon. But in the meantime remember the date. The; party has been scheduled for Friday, March 31. LAST REMINDER Here it is Monday and I still have a dime. Have you a ticket to the swimming meet? All members of Alpha Sigma have tickets to sell. If you can't find a member, just come to the Weber gymnasium and pay a dime at the door. The club will meet with East and South Highs of Salt Lake City. We have a good team. Will you help us win? Alpha Sigma has a big program under way, so please support us and be supported. Remember, the meet will be tonight at eight o'clock.-Puddle. ATTENTION STUDENTS Due to a readjustment, the position of associate business manager of Classicum annual is open again. All those wishing to try out will please present their names to Mrs. Chambers, Room 203, before Friday at three forty-five.-Lowell W. James. |
