Show SATURDAY EVENING, FEBRUARY 18. 1933 Box Elder Uncorks Rally To Down Ogden Machine Brigham Machine Puts On Spurt In Closing Periods Orange Streaks Hold Lead For Three Periods of Play In Spirited Contest At Weber Gym; Hansen Sparkles For Bees; Greenwell Stars For Ogden By BILL BOWMAN Earl Ferguson's Box Elder Bee Basketball team kicked the Ogden High Tigers from their division leadership position Friday night at the Weber gymnasium with a last-period rally which gave them a 31-to-27 victory. Playing without the services 01J their regular center, Johnson, who is suffering from lagrippe, the Bees displayed a brand of marksmanship and showed some close guarding, which swept the Tigers off their feet. Ogden started otlt with a bang and the first quarter ended 7-2 for the Tigers. Box Elder's two points in this canto were the result of free pitches by Hansen. In the second period Hansen and Meacham sunk four baskets while Greenwell with two made Ogden's i only scores and the half ended 11- : 10 for Ogden. At the beginning of the second half Hone sunk a long one and Simonsen made a free try and a field; ; goal to put Box Elder on the long ! end of a 15-12 score. Kennedy, Ogden center, sunk three successive shots coming in fast and made a foul and Ogden again led, 18 to 15. Greenwell made two I baskets for Ogden and Simonsen and Walker each one for Box Elder. and the third period closed with Ogden still leading by three points, 22-19. RALLY OPENS Here it was that the Bees rallied j and battled the Tigers off their ; feet by mixing more uncanny long I ones with several setups. Hansen sunk two from under the basket to put the Bees ahead, 23-22, and Hone and Simonsen dropped one each in from the corners to give them a five-point advantage. Ellis and Greenwell each sunk one i for Ogden and the Tigers were 26 and only one point behind, but here their rally faltered. Meacham and Hone each made a free try and Simonsen bagged an- other long one with but 30 seconds to go to keep the Bees ahead, 31-26. Ellis brought Ogden's score to 27 when he made a free try and the gun ended the game. HANSEN SWITCHED With Johnson out of the lineup,, Coach Ferguson shifted Hansen, his, star forward, to center, and called upon Rasmussen, first and then Simonsen, for Hansen's post. Simonsen clicked beautifully when he got into the lineup. He dropped long ones in time after time to break up the Tiger close defense and Hansen was pushing them through the hoop, both long and short. Walker, at guard, held Ellis, Ogden forward, down to two field goals although the Tiger played a nice floor game during the first half. So far as baskets were concerned the Bees were on, especially with I their measured long shots, while on I the other hand the Tigers were dis- I tinctly off. Ogden players missed many set- I ups and at the same time threw pass after pass away by poor timing and I breaking. Kennedy and Ellis were both decidedly off on their marks- I manship, although the former did I make 9 points. Greenwell was most I accurate among the Tigers and Boerens Plaved a good floor game. MONDAY EVENING, FEBRUARY 20, 1933. Lead In Ticket Sale Rivalry Exists At Ogden High Regarding Cadet Hop Admissions OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Parke Petterson, Editor Barbara Kimball and Marjorie Wood Associate Editors Maybe you don't know it, but C company has sold the most tickets to the cadet hop and that incomparable pair, Ruth and Jim had a fist in the pie. Ruth says she has sold 24 tickets to the hop while Sarge Myer chokes out the news that he has sold only two. A company is taking the booby prize again-and such a pretty sponsor, too. What we need is some of the- alumni like Joe Fowler to let the boys know what's what. Today's problem: Sid Gordon, talking about girls and not even! going to the cadet hop. And now the girls will have a lookj at Gerald Bennett in his civilian j clothes. Famous Last Words: So three's a crowd. Ah Nerts, my castles are all tumbling down! This one was pulled on Burp.-Emmerson Huff. MORE BASKETBALL The second league game between clubs was held in the gymnasium - Tuesday at neon between Amigos del Mundo and Beta Zeta Tau. Both teams fought hard but Amigos del Mundo emerged as a victor with a score of 18-8.-F. M. THE DAILY CARTON Depression? And how! At least, last Thursday was no dress rehearsal We begin to realize that times could be worse if they had to. Never mind, boys, Mr. Merrill says you can wear your good clothes now if you want to. Are you going to the cadet hop? If you don't, you'll miss the time of your life. Sarge Holloway is putting some pep into the crack company in preparation for the big event and it promises to be a knockout. Ogden High's password just now seems to be "new building" We wish you luck and plenty of it. Why not pake a bargain with the school : ooard that if they will give us a new building we will agree to save them money by taking a cut of six weeks 'in our school year. Personal: We wish to apoligize to Lee and his model for that crack last Tuesday. We didn't know they would take it so hard. However, for the benefit of Miss we will say that the crack was aimed at Lee.-Wash Tubbs, Editor in Chief. |
